What’s the record of left-arm spinners in Australia then? Bashir has shown more promise than Hartley so I’ve got no problem with Bashir being preferredThe thing that I really don’t understand about ignoring Hartley is that apparently the selection of Bashir is with one eye on the Ashes
Have a look at the record of foreign offies in Australia
Hartley bowled well in the first test when the pitch was unplayable in the fourth innings but was far worse than Bashir over the rest of the series. I'd be more narked by Leach or Dawson not getting a game than Hartley.Btw, I am not hating on Bashir
He’s only 20 & shows promise
Just find it odd that Hartley is completely on the outer after showing a little bit
On the one hand, when you’ve got a bang average record and you want to gatecrash the Test team, you should play as much red ball stuff as possible, on the other, does it matter at this stage? Would it actually matter if he prioritises the County Championship, or is there simply not a way back for him?Sam Curran 'a bit gutted' to be overlooked as Stokes' Test replacement
Allrounder fears he might not 'fit the mould' in Brendon McCullum's England regimewww.espncricinfo.com
I think if he really wanted to get in the Test team he would have played more f/c for Surrey
I have seen the use of the tag 'no rounder' used for players who don't appear to be international class in either of the two main disciplines. I am fairly content that this accurately applies to Sam Curran in both test matches and ODIs. He should be nowhere near the test team as his main use will be for opposition batters who enjoy stats padding. I definitely don't want to see him bowling to Kane Williamson next month! On the one hand, when you’ve got a bang average record and you want to gatecrash the Test team, you should play as much red ball stuff as possible, on the other, does it matter at this stage? I don’t think he should be in the team, and if he wants to be, I think he should play more red-ball stuff, but at the same time, does his face not fit with the Test team no matter what he does? He must consider himself the best all rounder in England cricket if he is disappointed not to be chosen. Woakes is more suitable, bowling all-rounder, and we have another in Carse, batting all-rounder. I don't think it has anything to do with Curran's bowling speed, which is the same as Woakes.I don’t think he should be in the team, and if he wants to be, I think he should play more red-ball stuff, but at the same time, does his face not fit with the Test team no matter what he does? I know that Woakes is batting up the order these days, but he and Carse are more bowling all-rounders, in the absence of Stokes, it’s a shame we don’t have someone not named Woakes (who is averaging just shy of 20 over the last 2 calendar years—pre-Pakistan anyway!) deemed suitable to bat in the top 7, maybe if Curran did play more red ball stuff he could be that guy?He must consider himself the best all rounder in England cricket if he is disappointed not to be chosen. F/c

I asked a very similar question when Stokes got injured, while we have a few bowlers who could potentially do the Woakes role with the bat (Carse and Atkinson are already in the team), but no realistic Stokes replacement as a batting all-rounderWho

Hate to sound like a broken record, but having Dawson in the side for the past however many years would have helped balance the team out in Stokes absence.I asked a very similar question when Stokes got injured, while we have a few bowlers who could potentially do the Woakes role with the bat (Carse and Atkinson are already in the team), but no realistic Stokes replacement as a batting all-rounder

Definitely too early to think about when you don't know who is going to be about. I would like to see who is going well from the current participants after the end of the NZ tour. There has not been a lot of turn around since the start of the West Indies tests in mid-July to have got through 8 games. As I've said elsewhere, it is no surprise that Atkinson has been flagging. Hopefully with a bit of R&R he is good to go, but I'm not sure I would have him in for the next Pakistan game, given that a) Carse has been bowling really well and b) it is going to be a rank turner. Therefore, he might be carrying drink at best and hopefully he gets going for the NZ games.[
Whomevers fit.
