Road to India in Australia 2024-25

It's not even close either. There are probably 50+ spinners in India better than Lyon
Not much in it for me. Half of Lyon's wickets have come at home, at pretty much his overall Test average. Modest records against SA/Pak, but performs against England and India (particularly IN India). 3/4 of Jadeja's wickets have come in India, and his only decent sample size in another country is in England, when he's not bowled well.

And his home is Australia where finger spinners go and die

Lyon is comfortably ahead of Jadeja as an all condition spinner for me. Obviously Jadeja will out bowl Lyon in certain helpful conditions all though Lyon would still not be far behind but there are certain other not so helpful conditions where Lyon is comfortably ahead

Imo Head might have a horrific series if he opens against Bumrah and a fully fit Shami. He has a genuine weakness with balls on the top of off stump which will be exploited mercilessly against fresh, world class bowlers with the new ball. Much better suited to 5-6 hitting against the old ball. If I were Australia I would have:
Khawaja
Bancroft/Marsh/other opener
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Hardie

Yeah I agree. Ian Chappell is spot on.

I'd also move Marsh into opening position as he isn't really gonna bowl much or I'd get a specialist opener. From India's POV, though, I'd like to see Head open. At least one big threat will be dealt with early.

I would like Smith to open for Aus as he could be a genuine threat and it will be easier to remove him if he opens.
With Bumrah and Ashwin in our side, I don’t see Head making much of an impact.

Seems aussies are taking this year bgt pretty seriously maybe they have a point to prove vs india at home
How are they taking it more seriously than any home test series? For the first time in years they made the Shield schedule so Test players could get some red ball practice. Half the team decided not to bother playing the first round of Shield.

Also they've scheduled a meaningless 2 week ODI and T20I series with Pakistan that ends 3 days before the BGT. Great Test prep....

It is a very long test series and bowlers don't want to get injured in the pre-season or put unnecessary miles in their legs.

Most of the Aus batters are playing in the shield though so they are taking it seriously enough. And I bet almost everyone will play the 2nd round.

Aus need smith and head to be in form these two are enough to beat india

Khawaja, Labuschagne, Head, Carey and Lyon are only confirmed starters for 1st round of shield. Marsh may play but not confirmed yet

You'd think Australia selectors would have learned with the Finch experiment. Opening in whiteball means squat for opening in Tests
Unpopular opinion, but finch wasn't given enough chances opening. Did well in the uae then got binned after failing vs the best attack in the world.

Green is injured so only Smith is missing from
the established batters. (Marsh might not be fully fit either btw)

It makes sense for fast bowlers to only play 1 round max given that there have been so many injuries in the reserves. And I don't think fast bowlers need that much practice. They can even play a couple of ODIs vs Pakistan to build their workload.

This series has Ashes 10/11 feeling written all over it

Team India to win 3 to 1. And another Argus review
