Murphy forever Ambrose never.

Two greats, both big misses for respective factory teams.

Just sat down for Sandown. Will see about half. Haven't seen a lap all weekend yet so all fresh to me.
At work for another 2 hours, will come home and watch it. After last year’s race I don’t have high expectations for excitement. I’m excited to see Chahda get lapped about 10 times tho.

Also, Ambrose forever, Murphy never. Silly Kiwi cost Marcos a balaclava comeback Bathurst win.

Gg Stanaway. When it rains it pours. Alongside most others on the grid he retains his spot imo. It's a pretty depleted grid these days.

Race has been ok. Most of the excitement caused by some interesting driving errors. Gotta go out now so keen to see how it plays out.

Yeah lotta co driver stuff made stuff interesting. Erebus really can’t catch a break. Disgusting Camaro podium, but very happy for Golding.

Pretty strong stuff from SVG and McLaughlin this weekend - Scottie with a big recovery drive though the race was kinda a letdown cos of Power’s seatbelt ruining the championship fight at the start. SVG finally got back to the lead but seemed to have a big error and lost it on the last lap, but 2nd is nothing to sniff at.

McLaughlin might look back at this year as the one he should have nailed.

Interesting tho that he's probably outright fastest kiwi in the world now. Could be quickest from Oceania but sadly we'll never see him h2h with Oscar.

Our stolen team better deliver Oscar a fast car next year. Feels like a WDC in waiting but the chat seems to be back to Merc and Ferarri engine dominance after that.

Yeah, the silly clashes with Power and his random ass spin at Detroit. Not to mention if everything went the same and P2P didn’t happen they’d have tied on points and McLaughlin would win on countback! He’s gotta be one of the favourites for next year.

Same with Piastri (being a favourite next year)

Great stat:

Ambrose wouldn't have won in 2005 anyway imo even if not for the Murphy crash imo. Getting past Skaife that day would have not been an easy feat. Still would have been interesting to see him try though.

Can definitely imagine a hypothetical scenario where they ended up being the ones to take eachother out, leasing to the late great Jason Richards getting the win with a young Whincup co driving for him

Meanwhile in slightly more contemporary times, WAU to Toyota. That one come wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of left field

Nah Ambrose had the pace for sure had been the fastest car that day since Lowndes copped the tyre. Had already made so much ground back after the balaclava issue. Would have been a great battle either way.

Also yeah Toyota joining, crazy! They’re kinda on a downturn this year tho  (No NASCAR champs in 5 years, losing their WEC and WRC strangleholds this year). Sounds like a perfect Mostert team - good enough for wins but not a championship. Better work hard to grab it this year!

Toyota coming is great. With the Supra as well...Could lead to making friends with Super GT but with real cars not DTM paper planes.

Supercars is gonna do a finals series next year.

Ew. Supercars are great because they largely haven't fallen into gimmick traps like finals, success ballast and other garbage.

I wonder if it's a way to randomize it a bit more so teams don't go on dominant runs, especially with the loss of so many ATGs in recent years diluting the field. Reeks of the reverse grids to stop Skaife and Lowndes winning every race for HRT.

All we want is the best drivers and a variety of manufacturers.

Yeah this seems disgusting. When people say NASCAR does some things better they don’t mean a finals series.

So this will be top 10 after Bathurst.. no proper details yet but I can see it either going one of two ways since they mention no win it snd you’re in.

Either it will just be a reset post Bathurst and points from there with the eliminations or more likely a reset after Bathurst, Gold Coast and Sandown with top 10, 7 and 4 respectively, having the top 4 drivers all start equal at Adelaide.

Either way its awful. Brown’s consistency this year would mean nothing if he has a bad weekend near the end.

So I went back and checked some results. Assuming its the last 3 rounds I’m pretty sure almost every winner changes in the last 5 years or so. Including McLaughlin and SVG’s record seasons. Disgusting.

I think Whincup wins a few more lol. Supercars’ Jimmie Johnson
Tbf Whincup was a monster. Crushed former generational talent and champion Lowndes into a #2 nearly man, though Skaife softened him up first.

Another Aussie generational talent prevented from accessing the F1 ladder through money.

Been thinking on this dumb finals **** - another step towards a closer relationship with Nascar?

As a dreamer of partnering with DTM in the early 00s I support it for similar "world tin top championship" reasons, and it would raise the standard of both series drivers if there was a level above where guys drove road courses, ovals and street circuits, but I think we can do a partnership without the dumb finals.

Who'd have thought F1 and Indy would be two of the more sensible championships today 20 years ago?
