*Official* New Zealand in Sri Lanka

Wow, WoR is a real weapon. Southee needs to handle him carefully and not overbowl him like KW/Latham tended to do to the pacers over the last 2-3 years.

303 is well pulled back by NZ, but would still say advantage Sri Lanka. 100 plus lead seems to be the order of the day for a team batting last here, and that will take a hell of an effort.

4 man pace attack of Henry, Smith/KJ if fit, WoR and Sears with GP to balance the attack looks pretty tidy.
Absolutely. Duffy could also do a job in that new ball slot, id imagine he's ahead of Smith in the pecking order - although Henry at 8 is a nose bleed in that lineup

I think "Left out to play O'Rourke" perhaps more correct. To me the earlier Stead comments about Southee perhaps not playing every game implied Southee + Henry and Henry + O'Rourke would be the rotating starting players if only 2 seamers needed .... so perhaps O'Rourke was extra impressive in warm up nets?
But Henry covers everything Southee can do, hell I honestly think that even includes captaincy.

Hate to say it and hope to be wrong but think we've seen the best of KJ
.. and it was good to watch. I caught a few Jamieson Plunket Shield spells at EPOO in 2020, you would think a giant quick would be taking wickets with keeper catches off the shoulder of the bat / gloves or caught short leg defending or fine leg hooking etc, but 7 of his 15 wickets were bowled. Some hooping outswing to beat the edge a few times, then a little in-swing, batters hanging back on the crease, and the correct length at EPOO to disturb the bails.

Good over from Kumara to Conway. Looks like *everyone’s* decided to test DC out with right arm over now.

If things weren’t super busy on the professional and personal front, would have loved to make the trip to Galle. Watched the 2015 test vs India there (Herath spinning India out on the last day after Lanka conceded a 190-plus lead in the 1st innings), was a lovely place to watch test cricket. That fort is a stunning backdrop too.

Big fish is at the wicket ..

Big moment in the test , first 25 balls to Williamson is so crucial otherwise it's a long day

Not great signs from Conway in that innings I thought. Looked over-eager to get bat on ball and not particularly secure against the spinners. Don’t like his chances when it’s time to face Ashwin, hope he can find some rhythm soon.

I don't think we can expect a lot from Conway going forward. Likely the only FC cricket he is going to play is Test cricket - this is not the guy who based his game around spending a tonne of time at the crease, to make it into this side originally. He's got that eagerness to hit the ball as you say, that comes from a T20 diet, and the planting of the front dog as a default straight down middle
