Top pace bowlers to debut in 21st century

Rabada is better in SA than Anderson is in ENG. And has a better away record as well although doesn't have quite the longevity. Can go either way, but I have Rabada over Anderson as well

Steyn is #1.

Anderson is 2.

Cummins #3

Bumrah #4

Rabada #5 because his away record vs top opponents is weak. It's a case where his bowling record is similar to KW in batting.

After these #5, we have other names who are conditions specific bowlers.

Broad #6 due to longevity.

Philander #7, terrific record outside Asia and true match winner there.

Johnson #8, he was at his absolute peak in Ashes and South Africa away during his 2013-14 version.

Boult #9, one of the best with new bowl in swinging conditions.

Hazelwood #10, excellent record in Aus, Eng, NZ but not convinced of his bowling prowess in Asia even though he does have a 6-fer in India.

Rabada debuted in 2015 and since then

Rabada has 299 wickets in 64 matches with a 22.03 average, Home: 19.07, Away/Neutral: 26.90, Asia: 35.63

in the same timeframe, Anderson has 324 wickets in 89 matches with a 22.63 average, Home: 21.78, Away/Neutral: 23.80, Asia: 23.56

so it's not like Rabada has outbowled Jimmy, and you compare their effectiveness in Asia and you'd see.

What about before then? You are comparing Anderson's peak with Rabada's entire career. Anderson was very poor for about 10 years.

Like I said you could go pretty much either way, I prefer Rabada because he is more of a wicket taker. He has the best SR in cricket history, (although it is aided by friendly home conditions). Putting either over the other, isn't a wild take imo

Anderson has longevity so he is ahead of Rabada otherwise Rabada should be rated higher. However, Anderson might have more top order wickets than KG. Anderson's biggest strength was his ability to pick top order wickets due to his new ball skills.

to the contrary, This also includes Anderson's decline and retirement phase of 2023 and 24 where he averaged 34, which is the sole reason Rabada got the average advantage.

and Yeah Anderson as a young pacer was not good but when you sustain this quality for 140 matches and 14 years I'm fine with forgiving a bad start, especially against a guy like Rabada who bowled his entire career alongside Jimmy and still got outbowled pretty decisively.

Yeah with Anderson it isn't cherry picking his peak, he was very good from 2010-2023 which is a decently long career itself for a seamer and significantly longer than Rabada's currently.

How did he get outbowled exactly? I don't think either of them had outbowled the other

Some might feel that I have Hazelwood low down at 10. But the reason for it is that he has been lucky to get rested more in matches in Asia compared to Starc or Cummins.

Hazelwood has played 70 tests and only 9 are in Asia.

Starc has played 89 tests and 17 are in Asia. Cummins has 11 in Asia out of 60 odd tests.

So, Hazelwood has been a bit lucky compared to Starc in that regard.

Why a lot of posters are rating Wagner higher than Boult?

The best players of NZ's last generation were Williamson, Taylor, Boult and Southee. Wagner was always the third cog in that pace attack.

Watling and Wagner were better than Boult and Southee.

Wagner bowled with the old ball in unforgiving conditions. He offered so much more and performed when it was needed.
