How is Allan Border remembered as a captain?

Greatest or not, Border has always been the cricketer I respect the most, by a distance. Also he is an out and out ATG, probably the best Aussie bat between Bradman and Steve Smith
That is a tall claim... purely as batsmen, if one were to - correctly - rank Simpson and Walters and Gilchrist below him, it would be a stretch to not rank S Waugh and Harvey at least on par with him. It will be more difficult, but still possible, to rank him above Ponting. But it may be impossible to not place G Chappell above him.

Top ten Aussie batsmen since (including) Bradman would probably be...
  1. Bradman
  2. G Chappell
  3. S Smith
  4. Border
  5. Ponting
  6. Harvey
  7. S Waugh
  8. Gilchrist
  9. Simpson
  10. Walters

Border was very versatile and has a good record from 3-6. He has a brilliant record across conditions, and impactful series agaisnt ATG/great bowlers, dominating Marshall, Garner and Holding(81/82 in Aus and the famous WI series), Hadlee in his god series, peak Botham and Willis in 1981, Imran and Sarfaraz in the 78 tour, and was a great player of spin. Border doesn’t have a bad record in any country, and proved himself against pure pace, swing, reverse swing and spin. Ponting has a very bad record in Ind and decentish in England, two prime oppositions. Waugh batted at 5 mostly, has a dodgy record in Nz and SL. Chappell choose his tours too much for my liking.

A lifetime ago my X worked at Cobb and Co while attending uni. One night the Aussies came(think the 90 tour) and she basically spilt half the teams drinks on your man Greg Ritchies lap. She always said it was one of the most embarrassing moments of her life but also added that Greg was really
cool about it at the time.

I strongly suspect Fat Cat Ritchie put away 5 servings of Cobb Crunchies.

Yes.
Yes indeed he probably did have about five baskets of those for himself.
And then after his massive steak with an extra portion of fries, reckon he got the chocolate sundae, with extra chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
TBF those cobb crunchies are yummy and very moorish.

Morris? Chappelli? Clarke? Hayden? Lawry? Hussey? M Waugh? Boon? M Taylor?

I think Gilly belongs in the top 10 post war aussie batsmen
Would make my top 10 of all time , at no.9, with Trumper and Ponsford coming in for Walters and Simpson. And trumper going straight to no.4.

Lawry and Clarke very close to Simpson and Walters.
