Some var controversy at the end of normal time at 1-1. France that they'd get a penalty after a handball but not given I think because a (very soft) foul had been given moments before and couldn't be overturned on var.

And has resulted in two nobodies being in one men’s semi while 2 of the best face off in the other

Shame that conditions haven’t cooperated because it’s one of the world’s best waves

edit: at least the Aussie is in the final

He’s up against a local Tahitian who isn’t in the top 50 but obviously knows the local conditions

Yeah that wave is like nothing else when it’s even just a moderate size. And when it’s big, well. Scary.

Should hopefully have a better second week. Lisa Carrington (five-time gold medallist) and Aimee Fisher (who's beaten her a couple of times lately) have a decent chance of going 1-2 in kayak sprint.

And I feel like most of our lot so far have been doing okay, they've just been beaten by better performances on the day.

Ellese Andrew's the favourite to get gold in the Kieran as well.

I'm not a big fan of competition surfing (it's scored and every wave is different, plus its boring as ****). Surfing is fun - watching it not so much.

That said, the French guy should have been disqualified for surfing with so much but crack showing.
