Same tier and close, I generally find it difficult to rank outside of the top 8 for that next group and place them all in the bucket.

Ponting

Was the best in the world for seven / eight years and in his pomp well in the conversation for BAB

Gavaskar. One of the nine best ever bats for me(Bradman, Hobbs, Tendulkar, Viv, Sobers, Smith, Hutton, Lara, Gavaskar, Hammond). and has work of substance nearly everywhere(even tho Aus and maybe Eng not that impressive, but he had that ATG series there).

Gavaskar, one of the finest openers Vs Ponting who was the best in the world and very very consistent for a few years. I'm sure he scored back to back hundreds in a test in SA.

They are in the same tier.

I know I've asked this before, bit couldn't remember your response.

Have you ever watched Ponting bat? And would you rating have been different of he retired earlier?
The first response is yes, but not enough to account for.
The next answer is slightly, as it should without such a long dry spell, but really can't see myself ranking him ahead of Waugh and Sanga even if he averaged as much as the latter.

Ponting’s last 6 years is reasonable to hold agaisnt him. ATGs are expected to be great until their mid to late 30s.

Yes, Kohli is around the same level as Ponting. Of Gavaskar, he isn't and 2-3 years I hardly believe is capable of changing that. The highest I can see him is around Chappell level.

They are all the same level, stop being pedantic
