I’m not a huge fan of Wilson. His writing isn’t very good, and he tends to settle on a narrative then cherry pick evidence to support it. He picks such interesting subjects that sometimes the books (or parts of the books) are very good anyway. But I’d definitely steer clear of the one about Guardiola and Mourinho.

tbh the Pep/Jose book doesn't interest me anyway, but thanks for the warning. Agree to differ about the quality of his writing, but that's life.

He does flip flop a wee bit. One week he'll write an article about how big transfers don't work, then (seemingly) the next he'll be waxing lyrical about Pep heralding in a new era of Galiticos.

Disagree with Uppers about his prose though, he can turn a phrase IMHO.

Alan Hansen is apparently seriously ill in hospital. I was a little too young to remember all but the fag end of his playing days but as a pundit, he was a huge part of my growing up watching football.

He was very good. When playing alongside Lawrenson, Liverpool were years ahead of their English rivals by playing two footballing central defenders instead of a stopper centre half and a sweeper alongside. Anyway, I don't want this to read like an obituary. Let's hope he recovers.

I always remember people complaining about Liverpool always passing it around their back line and not lumping it forward faster, that it wasn't great to watch. They just had the players who could do that, they controlled possession and the rest is history.

Fingers crossed for him.

I also think that people were bored with them winning the league as often as they did. At the time, I was, and was happy to see Villa, Everton and Arsenal winning it from time to time. Similar to City nowadays, I suppose, although at least Liverpool did the decent thing by winning the European Cup on a regular basis until Heysel.

Oh yeah I hated them. Growing up on the South Coast it used to wind me up how many people supported them just coz they won things.

It's somewhat ironic that I've ended up with so many Scousers (real ones) as my best mates, probably makes me want them to not win things even more!!

Indian posters surely it's more than crickets fault?
the aiff is abhorrently corrupt and even more incompetent, thats the number 1 reason and both of those trickle down heavily into every level of football if it exists here. there are other reasons too and blaming cricket for it is a copout

i dont remember any of these European club academies producing any sort of good footballers either for the national team, they were just pr shows imo

another thing to add is that the Indian team would instantly become better not to the level of an Asian powerhouse but better than being embarrassed by Afghanistan if they could callup overseas citizens like most other football teams do

Uruguayan players brawling with Colombian fans at the Copa America. Another chapter in the history of everyone’s favourite footballing psychopaths. Reminds me why I always liked them.

At the end of the game Núñez and about a dozen of his teammates went into the stands as fans brawled. A video showed Núñez hitting a fan in Colombian team colors.

"Uruguay’s Darwin Núñez missed several chances in the first half "

Some other things never change either....
