Almost un-noticed the Women's International season started on Saturday in England versus Pakistan. Despite falling to 21-4, England posted 160 and won easily by 50 runs. Jones, Knight and Gibson doing the rescue act before the bowlers did their bit (Glenn a fourfer).

Good to see Jones, whose place was certainly up for grabs last year, starting to play some really key innings and getting POTM here (also 4 catches).

NSB back for the next game so it doesn't get any easier for Pakistan.

Again, England make a par score, but it's more than enough as the Pakistan batting crumbles once Ecclestone and Glenn come on.

Another ton from NSB as she carries England to 302-5, which will surely be a matter of how much they win by.

No mention of the first ODI between NZ and England yesterday? A proper thrashing, hope NZ can improve for the rest of the series.

Nothing to mention. The White Ferns continue to fail, & the dimwits who run the show continue to display symptoms of madness in persisting with players who clearly should not be there while outright ignoring some of the best domestic performers.
Hope is useless. Heads need to roll, & have needed to for some time: Sawyer, the entire backroom, nearly half the players...

It's being shown by Sky here, so not like it's not available. I guess the times of matches make it unlikely to get much of an audience.
The previous ECB broadcasting rights deal ran out at the end of last season, & no NZ broadcaster has picked it up. We in NZ have to watch this series on ICC.TV.

I presume that includes Men's Cricket too. To be fair, it's not a great Summer of cricket here and you could imagine overseas broadcasters waiting a year before re-signing for India's tour next year.

Someone will definitely snap it up in time for when our boys tour in 2026 (3 Tests), but it's a long wait until then. It's a real shame, as I wanted to watch the Pakistan tour.

Meanwhile, Shafali Verma with a 197-ball 205 in the test against South Africa! :-O With 23 fours and no fewer than eight sixes.

I remember a huge amount of hype around her leading into the T20 World Cup in 2020 and I feel like she hasn't fully delivered on that potential, but that sounds like an immense innings.

Mandhana with 145 too in a 292 run opening stand. Doesn't exactly look like the strongest bowling attack for SA, especially with Kapp seemingly playing as a batter only.

I know I expected this between seeing India school Australia/England & the bloodbath in Perth, but this Test here in Chennai will not encourage any board to put their teams forward as the 5th Test team. It'll probably scare them further.
With that said, if there is a 5th team, I think it'll be Bangladesh: at least they're setting up a pathway with a multi day domestic comp.

If you wanted to see NZ play a Test, what you got today is about as close as you'll get to one.

Honestly, I'm angry & frustrated. This is just pathetic. Sawyer, the entire backroom, near half the players - purge the lot of them. Deliberately writing off an entire cycle like this is terrible. They probably justified this under a strategy of "short term pain for longterm gain" - THE GAIN AIN'T COMING!

When some of the best batters we've got aren't being selected & the mediocre to terrible are treated as undroppable, no wonder the losses are piling up. I can't see the logic, & frankly, as a NZ fan I've had enough. Seriously, I've had enough. They stink of loser, the stink gets worse, & when they try to do something about it, it only makes things worse.

Whilst this is clearly a decent England side at the moment, to see this level of thrashing going on is pretty disheartening for Women's Cricket as a whole. The gulf between the top 3 and rest seems to be getting bigger.
