Not looking back at the averages, but was Sir Curtly that bad? Not Walsh bad for sure.I was saying WI for worst tail with Walsh and Ambrose but guys like Cuffy or Rose. Very weak tails.

No, those were the parameters of the hypotheticalIs it? You are assuming there are four quality bowling options always available
Who would you pick if your fourth bowler is Alan Mullaly or Chris Lewis and the rest are bunny bats? No, those were the parameters of the hypothetical
That would make me English, and picking a cricket team would be the least of my problemsWho would you pick if your fourth bowler is Alan Mullaly or Chris Lewis and the rest are bunny bats?
You can get pills for thatI can manage a decent flapjack, but my sponges tend to be a deflating experience - perfectly edible though
Lol but you do get the point, yes? Your better specialist might not be that much more worth a decent tailender but worse specialist? That would make me English, and picking a cricket team would be the least of my problems
Just from memory the one player who really stood out in this area to me was Saqlain Mushtaq. On average he faced 46 balls per innings with a batting average of 14.48It’d be interesting to get stats on tailenders who had lower batting averages but faced the most balls per innings.
Just being able to hang around is valuable. I know Gillespie made that 200 but I always admired his ability to stick for ages even when not scoring, in order to build partnerships.
This needs to be contexualised though, even as a tail ender. If you are batting 11, a SR of close to zero would be great. If you are batting 8, a SR close to zero while you are batting with a recognised bat is good, but if you have 3 Martin's below you, you need to start hitting out when the specialist goes.Just from memory the one player who really stood out in this area to me was Saqlain Mushtaq. Gillespie on average faced 41 balls per innings. For reference Vettori faced on average 45 balls.
You can also add nightwatchman duties which this type of tail ender is perfect for. This needs to be contexualised though, even as a tail ender. A handsome man entersYeah I get the joke, it just (to me anyway) doesn't really work because the only England spinners I can recall over the last 20-30 years who were any good at batting were Swann (who would have got in the team as a bowler alone anyway) and Giles. Most of the rest that I recall (e.g., Tufnell, Leach and Panesar) have been basically useless with the bat.
Is this some Joe Root cosplayer or something?A handsome man enters
Jason Krejza, Ajaz Patel etc.Took 7fer on dayboo away to India, as if you don't know who he is
