I'm torn. Disappointed that Scotland failed and England go through. But I guess relieved that we didn't lose a game to Scotland because that would be embarrassing, regardless of circumstance

I hate this kind of player. Another way of looking at it is that they let you down time and again, until you are about to be free of the rash they are, then they play a game that gets them picked a bit more to keep letting you down. WAC!

It's a weird thing to say after scoring 4* off 5 balls.

Tim Southee was like this for many years. It's a pretty weak mindset, Wade seems to think it makes him tough. It basically says I don't care enough until I think I'm losing my job, then I'm all in.

Lot of talk about throwing this away from the Scots, but that's got to be one of their best ever displays, pushing Australia that close?

When did they get good? Seem to have overtaken Ireland at this moment.

Now that we've granted England a 2nd chance in this tournament, I assume we'll hear them gushing over us and how sportsmanlike we are.

There should be shrines being built to Australian cricket by all Englishmen tonight. They've been kissed on the dick in a WC tournament yet again.
Going by all the smiles and laughter out there, you could say as an absolute minimum that the situation caused Australia not to be as professional and as focused as they usually are.

There were a few moments such as the wicketkeeper looking like he'd almost pulled out of a catch and almost like he'd delayed taking the bails off for a run out, Maxwell finding a way to play all around a straight one etc, where you could be forgiven for wondering whether the throw was on. As pretty much every person on here did. When an over of 'leg spin' which consisted of 6 half trackers, went for 2 runs, it would have been interesting to have seen the odds available on Australia.

However, Head was 100% focused throughout, and there was barerly a moment when I doubted him at all. He played a great knock.
Stoinis, joking around a lot of the time, found a moment to grow up and knuckle down and notwithstanding the woeful bowling, played a fantastic little knock with some clean hitting, and deft placement. There was a patch where he looked like prime Graeme Hick flaying a county attack. I don't normally find men attractive, but I even thought he looked noticeably handsome during that glorious period of run scoring.

I felt sorry for Warner, for whom it was clearly no joke, and who had to keep a dead straight face for the entire length of the game (under unfair scrutiny from the camera at times), and who I never doubted, even when he miss-hit one into the sky.

Australia are too good a side to worry about England still being in the tournament. It would have been wrong on so many levels for them to throw the game, and could have even derailed them in all formats going forward. They made the right choice to win, and ultimately their professionalism, ethics and considerable ability shone through.

Good on them, and good luck for the rest of the tournament.

They've got some wonderful new ball bowlers, mark watt is a gun middle overs spinner, and they've had a few really good young batsmen in mcmullen and jones come through to partner munsey and berrington at the top. There batting is still a bit thin, leask bat's 6 and is more of a neeshaw style player who should be at 7/8, and greaves isn't very good w/ the bat + there death bowling sucks, but they've put together a good team.

Laughing at those who thought Australia would ever throw an international cricket match in any format against anyone.

They back themselves to beat whoever is in front of them. As they should!
Having read through this thread, I am glad to have slept through the match because I think I’d have had a seizure or four with the way it played out. But honestly, once NRR ceased to be an issue I had no concerns about Australia not doing what needed to be done.

Sounds like a cracking game though

Ireland have regressed a lot when they lost the group of players that got them to the point of Test status during the late 00s-10s. They haven't been able to replace those guys from what I've seen

I missed all of Scotland's innings and woke up to check the score just after Warner's dismissal. My immediate thoughts were that 181 was a tough total, I could have done without Warner failing, and staying awake for the next hour and a half was probably going to be a mug's game. So I dozed off again for most of the Aus innings. I woke up again at the end of the Head & Stoinis partnership and stuck with the game for the last few overs. By then, I was too tired to care very much about the result but figured that Tim David would probably see them home after all that we taught him at Surrey a couple of years ago.
