Worst Captain ever

Pant Kameez

School Boy/Girl Captain
Babar Azam seems to be speedrunning to capture the throne of the worst captain in cricket history.

Who are the challengers ahead of him? Ajit Agarkar? Sachin Tendulkar? Chris Gayle? Heath Streak? Andrew Flintoff?

P.S. - I'm only talking about pure captaincy ability so match fixing doesn't count.

Gayle wasn't great.

Sobers, not so much for the declaration, but for the way he handled his own bowling load.

I certainly don't rate Cook (A) as a particularly good captain but he really wasn't terrible.....feel his bad rep just stems from that Warne stint in the comm box tbh.

Not too many captain's have an away win in India on their resumes.

Root was far worse.
Cook had some very bad moments vs India in some other series. IIRC the 2014 Lord's test, he set some of the worst fields I've ever seen when he had Plunkett bowling bouncers from round the wicket on a day 1 greentop.

Oh there were plenty of howlers in Australia against the tail the winter before and then against Sri Lanka the series before you mention, so he is deservedly up there. However, I would suggest some of those tactics v India, especially the bouncers may have been down to spreadsheet Peter.

I think Root definitely deserves more hate for the way he single-handedely destroyed Jofra with his staggeringly inept use of him in New Zealand.

I don't think I'd say Root was far worse, reckon they were similar. Both in the "not very good captains but not wildly terrible" tier.

Neither very inspiring on the field, Root maybe making more mistakes there. But Root was probably the better man manager at supporting his players off the field.

Edit: Root I guess looks worse by comparison because he was succeeded by Stokes who was instantly much better, whereas Cook was succeeded by Root.
