South Africa team selection

Kenneth Viljoen

International Regular
Most constants stats at FC level. But just can't translate it onto the international stage. Showed a minor glimpse of it last night
For his usual standards at international level it's an improvement, but striking at 128 in the middle order with a below 50 score when the opposition chased down the total in 14 overs is nothing to be happy about.

Exactly why I called it a "minor glimpse". At least he showed something more than what he is, but still miles removed from his FC stats

That isn't my choice that is what I think they'll do! I'd go rickleton over reeza, and shamsi over rabada .
There is no way I would leave reeza out. Been one of the most consistent t20i openers in the last 12 months. Second most runs in the recent t20 series vs WI. If you want to leave someone out for ryan it has to be qdk.
And for kg, there is no way either coetzee or nortje should be playing ahead of him. Economy of 8.86 in a ipl season dominated by the bat while coetzee went for 10 and nortje over 13 per over. He had the 4th best powerplay econ during the ipl.

Just think both underperformed on big stage many times so coetzee and rickleton would be a refreshing change that's all only one game can rotate and see also whois best for knockouts. Form etc bmt.

Maharaj
Rabada

Reserves

Rickleton

Personally I would go with the same team but play Fortuin instead of Coetzee.

Should QDK not perform this game, give Rickleton a chance in the next game.

Reeza was the only batsman worth anything in the WI series

Does he score quick enough though that he doesnt put too much pressure and for stubbs , klaasen and miller to do. id prefer rassie if he was there opening.
Reeza's got the best true SR of any SA bat since the last t20 WC, he's scoring at a fine rate AFAIK. Don't think you can really apply the usual kohli type "Anchor isn't scoring quick enough" criticism on SA anyway, given how they build there LOI side. They're going in with jansen at 7 and stubbs, who's basically a death over specialist, at 6. The expectation is that there gonna score a bit slower in the middle unless klassan goes berserk, than smash the ball at the death and hope the fact they've got 5 specialist bowlers lets them defend what they get.

Rassie's career strike rate is 130 and in 3 matches played this year it's 140. He's opened 3 times in his career, with an average of 14 and a strike rate of 116.
Reeza's career strike rate is 133 and in 4 matches played this year it's 169. He's opened 55 times out of 58 innings, with an average of 33 and a strike rate of 134.

Why would Rassie be the better option to open?

Strikerate of 152 over the last 2 years of t20i. His strikerate is fine. Rassie's strikerate is 126 in the same period.
