I don't really see how this could be a contest? Ashwin is streets ahead. Much more of a matchwinner. Far better strike rate, far more 5fors and 10fors. His average against every country is better than Gibbs career average.

He's clearly ahead to be fair.

He's also been shielded from some overseas assignments, played on, let's call them favorable pitches at home and had the benefit of DRS forcing batsmen to play.

I believe I rate Gibbs sufficiently high, but it's not really close. Ashwin is easily one of the top 5 home bowlers of all time; and his relative record in England (good average) and Australia (some great performances) is not really poor. Also excellent in WI and SL.

Yeah, Ashwin’s ahead, amazing in SC and WI, and decent enough in Eng and some good performances in Aus. Gibbs does have more fifers in Aus and Eng, but was facing far lesser competition for wickets

Ashwin.

Has all those other toys that Gibbs didn't have. Physically very similar, imposing figures, who had natural bounce on the off break. Ashwin however has quite a number of variations on his off break.
