The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Yes, and England has been mediocre (speaking kindly) for long periods over the past 50 years. Australia, Windies, South Africa, Pakistan and India all have better ATG batting and bowling lineups over the last 50 years lol.
What you are saying is right. But if you make an all time XI from past 50 years the difference will reduce between teams. Gooch was the Best Opener in 90s and Cook was the best opener in 2010s, Gower the best England batsmen of 1980s, Thorpe was the Best England Batsman from 1995 to 2004 and Pietersen the best England batsmen from 2005 to 2014. If Root replaces Thorpe he is the best batsman of England in from 2010s. Stewart was the Best Wicket keeper batsmen of 90s. Botham and Flintoff good Allrounders and an attacking spinner in Graeme swann, 2 greatest bowlers of 2010s for England. If you make them a Team they are not another English team which lose regularly to Australia but a formidable side.

Andy Flower???

England had some good players in the last half century here and there, but they still don't measure up to anyway close to the Australian and West Indian teams.

I don’t like it. I picked almost the exact same teams as you when I was writing up a response. (had a spinner as an alternate for Windies, had Laxman in over Jadeja, wasn’t 100% on a keeper for Pak or the second opener)

If you make them a Team they are not another English team which lose regularly to Australia but a formidable side.
They are an English XI which would definitely lose regularly to an Australian XI from the same time period, get over it.

They pretty much pick themselves. I thought India needed 5 bowlers because their pace attack is still lacking overall. I couldn't think of a spinner for West Indies. Motie might get there. Sulieman Benn is the only bloke from the given time period I can think of for some reason.

Not really they are an English XI with batsmen playing till No 10 and 5 Bowlers who can take wickets. Team Composition is what you have to look at not the country they represent.

I am not saying England is the best team but what I want to say is that their team composition is good enough to defeat any other countries XI. It won’t be one sided is what I want to say.

If it's last 50 years, England in that time for the comparison sakes:

Boycott
Gooch
Gower
Root
Pietersen
Botham
Knott
Flintoff
Underwood
Willis
Anderson

I'd have Langer and Slater over Taylor, but would give Mark the captaincy if he makes it.

Would have Desmond over Gayle.

They're all stronger sides than England. India is the closest but their batting advantage is too much.

England lack proper marquee monsters outside Botham in the modern era.

Harper was my alternative.

Correct. And their team composition is inferior to at least 5 other teams. I’d say the same if it was Australia with those players.

Pretty mid batting though this side bats deep. Vettori as the spinner is pretty bad.

England definitely 6th then.
