You should have seen the alternatives.Amazed that Daniel Flynn played a further 22 tests after Jimmy bashed his mouth open in his second test.
In his debut test the top 3 for NZ was Jamie How, Aaron Redmond and James Marshall. I remember we all had great hopes for How at one stage, and even Redmond (I was a fan) and there was a general sentiment at one point Flynn was unfairly treated because he played every spot from 1-7 and never seemed to be given a 'fair run'. He didn't take his chances but pretty much everyone was being given a gig to hopefully fill the spots outside Taylor and McCullum at that point. You should have seen the alternatives.
Jesse Ryder and Greg Hay?You should have seen the alternatives.
Bit harsh on Jerome Taylor. The entire WI team between 2001 and whenever Roach debuted not including lara, Chanderpaul, Sarwan and Gayle.
Dwayne Bravo was more than decent as an all-rounder in tests for us.The entire WI team between 2001 and whenever Roach debuted not including lara, Chanderpaul, Sarwan and Gayle.

Big Jesse, Greg Hay and probably a couple of others were much better players with stronger cases. In his debut test the top 3 for NZ was Jamie How, Aaron Redmond and James Marshall. Jesse, certainly. Hay will always remain a what if.Big Jesse, Greg Hay and probably a couple of others were much better players with stronger cases.
Marshall and Flynn got in because reasons. Neither were ever unfairly treated and their final domestic averages reflect that. They were given preferential treatment they never qualified for.
Got hit for the biggest 6 in the history of cricketDaren Powell. Near 40 tests at an avg well over 40. Got one or two county stints as well.
The fact Campbell almost makes Zimbabwe AT XI (certainly did as a specialist opener when CW made one 5-6 years ago) ; can speak for itself.....What’s the general feeling about Alistair Campbell? A sub-30 average in tests and just about 30 in ODIs is disappointing for someone of his talent, more so considering he part of the “leadership group” for at least half his career. Even allowing that Zimbabwe didn’t have an embarrassment of riches, the numbers are very surprising.
There was an English (maybe Scottish) poster on the old board I was on who used to moan about the quota system whenever South Africa had a match. Players like Mulder were always a good rebuttal to his nonsense.People outside South Africa must look at Wiaan Mulder and wonder what is all the fuss about
Definitely doesn't fit this thread. He stopped playing internationals at 29 when in his prime. For Turneresque reasons, not cricketing reasonsI suppose Ken Rutherford averaging 27 over some 50+ tests is a similar case on paper, even allowing for his horror start in test cricket.
Averages 40+ for a relatively weak team over 50 matches and saved a series in India..... He surely was a quite good player.Jimmy Adams.
The major reason for WI team not got white washed in India in that tour where Venkathapathy Raju toyed Lara.Jimmy Adams.
