It’s really close weighing the superior statistical accomplishment of Inzi against the track record against the best team of their time of VVS.

I would go with the latter because I value innings of consequence against the best and VVS had more.

Inzi was a proper innings builder and didn't have the advantage of batting down the order like VVS who had a nice cushion to rely on.

Are there any memorable match winning knocks against top nations from Inzi that come close to any of Laxmans?

The problem is that between those great knocks, Laxmans consistency and output wasn't quite there whereas it was with Inzi. Kinda like why KP doesn't get rated higher

Wouldn’t you pick the bigger match winner?
No because consistency matter and because Inzi was just having a higher output to set up wins in general. Laxman didn't average 50 plus in any country away from home.

I picked VVS, he did well in Aud, against Australia.

However Inzy has the address advantage of being a superior odi batsman.

Played some great odi innings.

Inzy was a match builder.

VVS was terrific against Aus so sure it's a point in his favor, but overall he didn't average over 50 against them and averaged 44 in Aus, so between his big knocks he wasn't setting the world on fire.

Against McGrath, Warne, Gillespie, lee

Steyn, Pollock

Murali etc

And yes Inzy faced the same bowlers in a tougher batting era.

what wins against teams that matter
184 in the 3rd test against India in 2005. Unbeaten 90 odd in SA to compare with Laxmans 96 there. Several tons against Murali. A triple ton against NZ. Several tons against Ambrose Walsh.

Tbf I think Australia records is a big point in Laxman's favour mate. Doesn't need to average 50 v them for that to be the case.

I know, I conceded that but just wanted to remind people that it's not like he was far beyond against Australia as many assume.
