Great opener vs great #5
What a jokeGreenidges sharp decline hides what an absolute superstar he was for much of his career, every bit as good as Gavaskar for 70-80 tests
yet another brilliant hot take from the guy who has no idea whyRichards ans Ponting are valued the way they areWhat a joke
Mate, there is no comparison. You say Greenidge was on Gavaskar’s level after 70-80 tests? After the English series in ‘86yet another brilliant hot take from the guy who has no idea whyRichards ans Ponting are valued the way they are
fair enough, can’t argue with thisMate, there is no comparison. You say Greenidge was on Gavaskar’s level after 70-80 tests? After the English series in ‘86
71 matches 117 innings 5033 @ 48.39 12 tons 27 fifties Home: 56.76 Away: 43.57
Gavaskar at a similar stage in his career…
65 matches 118 innings 6012 @ 54.65 23 tons 25 fifties Home: 48.14 Away: 61.66
They were never close lol. Greenidge was always a HTB, his record at that point also compares poorly with Gavaskar’s overall record. And lol @ the Ponting/Richards thing - Greenidge’s SR was 50, Gavaskar’s was 45, big whoop.
Bloke made 50+ scores less often than all the other great openers (even below the vaunted big four). He never was and never will be comparable to Gavaskar.
Gavaskar mostly feasted on WSC-depleted attacks and that terrible West Indies attack in the 71 series. Nothing special in the two toughest places to open in England and New Zealand either; got flat pitches in Pakistan and was an Indian opener, so had a lot of access to flat pitches. Gavaskar also failed in his toughest Australian tour and feasted there against some poor attacks. Yeah, commendable there, with some good knocks against Thompson, but he wasn't a great test bowler.Mate, there is no comparison. You say Greenidge was on Gavaskar’s level after 70-80 tests? Sounds like an awful lot of excuses to me.Gavaskar mostly feasted on WSC-depleted attacks and that terrible West Indies attack in the 71 series. While Greenidge wasn't great in Australia, he proved himself on seaming decks in New Zealand and England against very good attacks in multiple series. He was unlucky to play Pakistan mostly after turning 35, and unlike Gavaskar, he got tough pitches in Pakistan. He didn't have access to Indian roads for home games either. Gavaskar is better than Greenidge, but gavaskar's record outside Asia flatters him so much. It's more inflated than Venezuela's economy. In fact, he's the most overrated batsman ever, even more so than Ponting. Absolutely disgusting

Maybe now that you think he's an idiot, you should reflect on your own Ponting takes and consider the fact that they too have been extremely low iq.Awwwwww..... After your Ponting/Pietersen post, I thought we would be friends
For what it's worth, my IQ is 128Maybe now that you think he's an idiot, you should reflect on your own Ponting takes and consider the fact that they too have been extremely low iq.

Just because you don't agree, doesnt make it a joke. What a joke
That Greenidge was a superstar? NoEverything stated was factual.
And this...yet another brilliant hot take from the guy who has no idea whyRichards ans Ponting are valued the way they are
I know why they are rated the way they are. The reasoning just doesn’t make any sense. It also has nothing to do with Gavaskar or Greenidge. And this...
Gabaskars reputation was built around the horrible WI attacks of the early '70's and WSC ravaged attacks.Gavaskar mostly feasted on WSC-depleted attacks and that terrible West Indies attack in the 71 series.
