Debate thread for 2024 Ranking of batsmen poll

Best batsman over ever seen in real time and that includes Viv, Tendulkar and Smith. Peak Lara is the GOAT and there was a brilliance against him. He scored runs against three of the 5 best bowlers ever and may possibly be the best modern day player of spin.
When was Lara at his peak?

I think we need to rate the openers higher than we have been doing because they suffer because of their position.

Lara faced just as good attacks, McWarne, Donald and Pollock, 2Ws, Murali.

But how about again, Hammond, Hutton post war outside of Lindwall and Miller, Bradman.

Viv faced Imran, Wasim, Snow, Underwood, Lillee, Thompson, Quartet, Botham, Hadlee. Never played minnows.

Who besides Lara, Sachin, possibly Sobers faced names like that, and succeeded. And not just succeeded, dominated them, everywhere.

The revisionist history is ridiculous.
You just called Murali a great attack by himself. You are not wrong. WAG.

Of course, scaring bowlers is a Good Thing. But this is reflected in Viv's batting average! It's not an extra. If anything, fielding teams are buoyed when they get someone like Viv out (except the batters anticipating facing the quartet sooner rather than later).

Kohli would average 55+ if he played on the pitches Ponting played on. If Kohli has a few more good years, he’s pretty clearly better IMO.
Ponting and kohli feel like the same bat to me. Kohli has higher highs when thing are challenging, and lower lows. But (quality aside, which I'm not addressing in this post), they really feel like the same bat.

I rate Gavaskar as the best opener since Hobbs, but are seriously arguing he is better than Viv or this typical smart alec contrarian takes?
No , we were discussing about quality of attacks faced by Lara , Richards, Sachin and Gavaskar
