Who is the better bat? I think the answer is the answer, but some irrationally disagree

Jadeja hasn't been sufficiently tested away from home.
Thats not the question. The question is whether he’s better than Imran. Imran’s failures in the West Indies coupled with his much poorer rates of conversion to 50s puts this Jadejas favor.

I do wonder how you evaluate cricket players. As you know, by definition, one half the matches are played at home. Do you ignore those altogether?

What makes you think Jadeja is better at home?

I don't think that is such a black mark.

The averages for some of the top batsmen of that era was pretty low in the WI during that time. IIRC even many top batsmen were struggling to get into late 30s average. The WI were just that good.
I don’t think it’s a black mark. Just that Jadeja has performed better at the principal opponents of the day.

Imran, purely as a bat, has a couple of good series in Aus, a couple of good series in England, a good series against Hadlee in NZ and a MOS in India. He is far more accomplished than Jadeja who has been a downhill skier away from home.

As batsmen they're both a bit overrated with inflated averages but Imran marginally ahead.
Imran ended his career as a pure bat though, and his last few years was a genuinely good bat up the order.

I agree they both have average inflation though.

Jadeja is essentially in the Indian side as a batsman who can bowl a bit today. No real role at home or away otherwise and is performing better the last couple years than Imran ever did.

And I’d hardly say he’s downhill skies abroad. Many of hisinnings were critical setting up wins or saving the innings.

more than Imran

but if I have to name a few, a century on a first day pitch in England where India was 33/3

a 68 that out India in a position to win a match at Lords in 2014

A 56 when India was in deep trouble at Trent Bridge

just off the top of my head. Whatever it is it’s more important innings abroad than Imran has had in just over the half theoverseas tests
