I mean it’s a given that there’s been instances of spot fixing in most leagues and international cricket that have gone under the radar. Makes no sense for someone like MSD to fix games though lol.
If you spotfix once, you are typically compelled to do it again or else you risk being exposed by them. They can destroy your career with a single leak. You are not really doing it for money afterwards, although you may get even better sums. (You don't even need to fix results. Just some irrelevant stuff in the middle of an innings).

PSL final copied IPL final from last year, finishing on the very last ball. ;) Nice coincidence I suppose.

I hardly watch IPL. But happened to watch a couple of weeks in lockdown in 2021 when 2nd half of season was played in UAE. But a few games were such a joke that I haven't 'watched' since. Punjab literally threw this match in Dubai-

I doubt anyone of you watched it or remembers. But even off the scorecard you can tell something is not right.. obviously watching the batsmen do bizarre stuff gave it all away.

Rajasthan scored 185
Punjab in chase was going at 10 rpo
120/1 in 12 overs,
150/2 in 15 overs,
178/2 in 18 overs. (8 runs to win in 2 overs)
182/2 in 19 overs.
183/4 in 20 overs. (3 runs to win but got just 1 run in final over)

Didn't score a single freaking run in the last 4 balls of the match with 8 wickets in hand. You had to have watched this to know what was going on. Otherwise you would just give them the benefit of the doubt. This wasn't the only game around that match that was so so off... and that too in UAE.

turns out that when you give all teams the same salary cap and an auction system where they all have equal access to every player teams tend to be similar in strength and have close matches?

what a shocker i know

IPL teams are not of equal strength. Plus there is a clear disparity between the top 2 and the rest.
MI is full of Indian internationals, its almost like Barca FC/ Bayern from a decade ago.

The auction doesn't make them equals in strength, far from it, some teams end up spending ridiculous amounts (due to intentional bidding wars) on a couple of risky overseas players or a couple of newcomers -who then typically end up doing nothing special if not outright flop. Getting big overseas names is part of team branding.

So value a player is paid doesn't correspond to the likely output you are going to get from them.

find me when Bayern or Barcelona last finished in mid table brother, no scratch that, find me when they finished outside of Champions League spots

your Bayern equivalent of MI in ipl finished dead last 2 seasons ago, csk in 2022 finished 2nd last and then won the next year but suuuuuure there’s a clear disparity

every team makes a few bad deals. csk spent record money on Stokes and how many matches did he play in let alone contribute?

if you wanna claim that the ipl has spot fixing for certain incidents happening then sure i can see that but to claim they’re fixing the entire ****ing thing ball by ball like a video game is delusional

Their seasons are 38 games. Not 14 games. If MI were to play that many games, they would pretty much always finish top 4. There have been times when Barca haven't started off well but by midseason they are back in contention.

As for the highlighted part-
Thats mostly what I am saying!
plus an engineered close contest only once in a while -- to create a dramatic fluctuation in odds = huge riskfree betting profits

lol you realise they play 2 fixtures, 1 home and 1 away against each other in football like in the ipl right? the times Barcelona didnt start off well also coincide with them having a tough fixture list to start off

nah you’re claiming that there’s widespread fixing that still hasnt come to light despite involving 22 players on the field, umpires, probably coaches and match officials to create close contests with there being no upside for any of the parties involved in play with every outcome being engineered to perfection, do you think Thakur who cant even bowl 6 deliveries of consistent line and length can bowl a wicket taking ball on demand with the batsman obliging or do you think a batsman can suddenly flick on a switch to bosh 6s because their betting overlord asked them to???

you must be the type of dude who believes the moon landings were faked

engineered close contest doesn't mean every ball is controlled in a particular way. Just need to manage some small things which then lead to bigger consequences in the 'direction' you want.

For instance, you make an one-sided match into a close one.

If you are well ahead in a game and almost certain to win, you just need a couple of players say azhar and ajay jadeja to come in to bat next and totally slow down the scoring rate and the flip the match on its head. Bring the opposition completely back in the game. The odds will change so much and you make big gains based on that change. (live cash out on bets)

Bowling side of things you can bowl crap legside full tosses if you really want to concede high in an over, for instance.

you need certain situations where you can actually pull it off. You can't possibly do it every other game. You wait for the right match situation to develop in the natural course of games. It would really help if you can watch the series inside edge, its exaggerated and really dramatic but its gives you an insight into how it's done.

Not sure if there's any other NZers interested in watching the IPL this year, but it looks like Sky Sport has lost the rights. It's instead popped up on Sky channel 151 (something called Colors).
