I'm sorry bro, but this is clear double standards.

Ponting has good performances in India in 2008 and 2010 but none of those are used to suggest he wasn't a fail in India overall based on bad previous tours.

Similarly, Ashwin had two flop tours in Australia in 2011 and 2014 and an overall bad average, yet you don't want to call him a fail in Australia based on those handful of good performances later.

In England, you want to suggest Ponting's average flatters him, fine, but he has actual performances of substance in between, whereas you don't say Ashwin's average in England is flattering despite taking 18 wickets in 7 games.

At least apply one consistent standard and it is easier to discuss.

I am applying a consistent performance rating, and is not calling Ashwin better than Ponting. But both of those things are true. Ponting failed in some pretty flat pitches against some pretty mediocre attacks; his last two series are decent at best. I won't really argue with you anymore if you really think the fact that Ashwin genuinely won India games in Australia against pitches very unsuitable for off spinners and overall the 10 matches he played he outperformed the opposing team's best spinner is equal to Ponting in India.
As for England, I would still put Ponting fair bit ahead, mostly due to the 156 in 2005; but really, he played some mid attacks there and should had performed better and his average is flattering him a bit. Ashwin bowled perfectly fine as a support bowler in England.

Ponting last tour of India was an outright good tour. In 2008, he was decent but at least scored a ton.

But if you agree that Ashwin in Australia wasn't better than Ponting in India, and that Ponting was better in England, then we don't have much to argue on.

Ponting has 4 hundreds in England, one in each of his Ashes tours.

He also played 2 Tests vs Pak in England, in which he failed. Otherwise I think he did well enough in England vs England.

Its not the argument. Its the fact that he does not allow any other discussion on the topic without pushing his own takes, that is the crux. I clearly pointed out many times before, I actually do not have an issue with his positions, they are his to choose. My problem is when he brings up the same nonsense every thread and every post when someone mentions certain players. At that point, it falls under any of the categories of baiting, trolling or the forum atmosphere rule. And if you are not gonna invoke it for this, I am not sure what the point is, coz quite a few have already mentioned how unreadable CC has become outside of the match threads.

And guess who rarely shows up to said match threads. Its not difficult to figure out what the posters' intentions are.

My last two braincells are still intact, atleast enough to know what to laugh on and what to agree on..... If you truly believe that, I don't think this argument really has anything to argue on.

Btw, I agree with everything except the bit others have highlighted.

Ashwin has been better in Aus than Ponting was in India tbh. Ashwin was a key member of India's crucial wins in Australia in both 2018 and 2020. Ofcourse there were several players who were critical to India's success there but he was definitely one of those players. Ponting played no great part in India, although he did play well enough there in later years.
