If Jadeja cannot make Indian ATG XI then it can only be a compliment to the depth and quality of that XI. Jadeja is a monster of a test cricketer who's always in the game - taking wickets, bowling dry, batting cameos, and one of the best ever to patrol on the field. You can pick him apart either as a bowler/batsman in certain conditions but as a package, no arguments can be broached.

That's true but the fetish is mostly down to overseas track record. You see the demand for successful overseas player >>> home conditions player especially if you are Indian.

I think Zak has a comfortably better overseas record than Srinath and even Shami.

Hey I rate all of them.. Wasim among the greatest and Zak was pretty good too.

I do seem to overrate left arm seamers who can bat though.

Zaheer Khan had three fantastic years - 2007,2010,2011

Irfan Pathan had two fantastic years - 2004 & 2005.

Ishant Sharma also had two fantastic years - 2018 & 2019. In 2020, he played only one test in New Zealand and picked a 5-fer, returning from injury.

Ishant and Zaheer bowlers of similar ability and achievement. Both them debuted with a lot of promise, were dogsh1t for a number of years before resurrecting their careers somewhat in the latter halves.

Srinath bowled "unlucky" lengths throughout his career, even after he became consistent. He made batsmen look awkward regularly but was invariably a few inches too short.

Its just that when they do, it ends up being floaty and does not have the same speed and venom it does off that length. And it can take months to years for bowlers to be able to bowl the same ball with the same force behind it just a few inches fuller. I tend to think we have been too harsh on Srinath these days.

Shami has the same problem at times tbh. He's better than Srinath ishant and Zaheer but his unlucky length thing has hurt us massively in England where he keeps getting selected despite sucking.

Oh not harsh exactly. He was brilliant post-95 despite his shortcomings and is remembered fondly. Always economical at pace, developed the ball that held its line which made him far more potent, and could reverse it on occasion too.

Funny about Dizzy because he had the same problem, just the other end of it. Way too full, swinging it from the hand. Looked ***y but not always effective.
