The core of the debate is this : anyone who picks Tim Southee over Ryan Harris for an ATG series will have the same length of selectorial career as the person who picks Southee and Boult to tour Australia over Bond and Cowie.

About 40 overs.

this is assuming you have the best version of Harris and not the one that sucked for the major part of his career or the one struggling with injuries

every atg or comparison faceoff devolves into making that assumption for the sake of simplicity but its being increasingly used for ignoring factors like longevity or availability in good form

Harris does have a 5 year career that helps him in this debate tbf

Here’s a related question.

The chips are down and the balloon has gone up. Food poisoning has infiltrated the Australian camp on the day before the critical DFS Furniture test match. The opposition bowling line up is Devon Malcolm, Dean Headley, Steve Harmison and John Emburey with some support from Mark Butcher. You don’t know whether the good version or the mediocre version of these bowlers will turn up.

One’s here as a coach the other a nervous onlooker, but both are at the peak of their batting powers.

Who do you choose? Ryan or Marcus Harris?
