I mean every 100 test player is. Someone is still the least awesome, and as a Fleming fan and defender, he's in the batting conversation.

Otherwise it's clearly Lee or Ishant until Bairstow comes in.

The amount of talented cricketers that finished their career with 90-99 Test matches is insane ..

Nah, Harbhajan still makes like top 40-50 spinners...... Bairstow is the worst, followed by Ishant then Harbhajan and Strauss.

Ishant averaged 36.6 with the ball from 2007 to 2017 and had no secondary skillset. Late peak came when numerous pace bowlers were taking wickets for fun.

He is definitely in the league of Zaheer Khan and Srinath, just below Shami. His late career peak was great, as was his youth years. I would say his overall average of 32 is alright considering everything. Bairstow had two good years with the bat; and everything else he has been a burden. His glovework isn't even good enough really....

Both the openers are better than Strauss. Mallik is better than Ganguly and Bell; and Vaas definitely deserves better. Ntini is a better shout. Vettori is probably the worst pick though; he carried NZ bowling and batting for years. And man, again Southee over Ntini??

I am not saying Ishant is much ahead of Bairstow; but Bairstow really has been mediocre for the most part. And his keeping skills were never truly great; they were serviceable at best.

Don't mind who you think is worse. I always thought Bairstow's keeping was decent enough, unlike Buttler who was not a test standard gloveman.

A combination of Bairstow's leg break and bulking up just made him too heavy on his feet.

Bairstow has had such a strange career. Feel like if he had played a 100 Tests as a keeper he wouldn't really be in this conversation but you have those years averaging 20 or whatever as a specialist before the absolutely mad 2022.
