How would 80s WI and 2000s Australia fare in unbeatable current India?

Funnily enough, India actually were mediocre after the fixing scandal from 99-01 until that famous series vs Australia. The batting lineup wasn't settled, bowling was in flux with Kumble being in and out of the team, Srinath was getting old and they embarrassingly got whitewashed by SA, and lost two tests to Pakistan.

That 01 India side was in a really bad spot and honestly Australia should've whitewashed us.

No India weren't mediocre even then. Kumble played both series against Pak and SA, it's just that those sides also were top notch sides of the era full of greats who simply played better than India. India still had class bats in Dravid and Azhar, Tendulkar was still the best batsman in the world.

And Australia would have beaten India comfortably if it weren't for miracle performances by Harbi and Laxman that no team can plan for or anticipate frankly. I mean, it took perhaps the single greatest innings of all-time and perhaps the greatest bowling series of all-time to barely win at home against Australia.

After the first test, I honestly thought Australia was going to sweep the series. Then India follows on in the 2nd test, then VVS!!

India will be beat once Ashwin and Jadeja both retire.
Nothing lasts forever. But the Indian talent creation machine is pretty good and there will be replacements. I think it happens when Ashwin and Jadeja should retire (which in Ashwin's case may be a year or two away), but don't. A bit like the 2012 era when Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Zak, Harbhajan et al were over the hill and Ashwin and Kohli yet to emerge.

Huh, maybe we really are unbeatable.
India at home is. The bowling especially is just relentless: Ashwin, Jadeja, Bumrah and Siraj or Shami. The batting isn't the best but they bat deep. Idk about Subz but I've always said 80s WI would likely lose by a single test: 2-1 to India. As for 2000s Australia that's for someone else more informed to determine.....

With DRS we'd win easily, if we had some of our best batters in an All time Indian XI we'd beat almost any World XI across ages over 5 or more tests! Like how's this for a stat - India hasn't lost a test in which Shami has played at home 🤷‍♀️

While still think they're a bit too conditions dependant, I was really impressed by the young talent. Jaiswal, Gill and especially Jurel (Infront of and behind the stumps).

Kuldeep impressed the hell out of me and Bumrah is a potential great of the game. Yeah England batted poorly and had some stupid ass captaincy decisions, but the victory was well earned and more importantly the future is bright.

Not declaring was a poor choice imo.

Aus also didn’t lose a Test at home between 99-07 when McGrath played
WI also never lost a Test at home in which Marshall played iirc .

They did come close in 2001 when NZ almost chased down a smallish score & McGrath had to resort to bowling wides, they'd probably be called test wides today!
The biggest difference of course is Jadeja+Ashwin - there's no equivalent for them in test history at home!

No, lost two although Marshall had a much much more distinguished career than Shami -
