How would 80s WI and 2000s Australia fare in unbeatable current India?

Lol this is ridiculous. Kumble isnt mediocre. Neither was Harbi in 2001, that was the greatest series performances of any spinner of all-time, he was bowling ridiculously well.

And Aussie won against Kumble/Harbi in 2004/5, they didnt struggle particularly.
Like dude comeon.... I literally wrote anyone EXCEPT Kumble and Harbhajan.

Who would win in India vs Rest of the World XI over the last decade in India?
Rest of the world has the much superior batting, India has the better spinners and I would say all around both teams have equal pacers (with slight lead to India in India).... It would be a great game, but I think Smith-Root-Williamson will be able to outscore Virat and co. and well, Lyon and Shakib with the pacers will probably get the 20 wickets. I predict 2-1 in ROW XI's favour.

They could be the bowlers who managed 390 Test wickets at avg/SR of 39/79.4 while Kumble/Harbhajan took 466 wickets at 26.2/60.2 in India from 1998-2008.
As a follow up post, for the Ash-Jaddu era from 2013-2023, Ash-Jaddu combined for 442 wickets at 20/48 in India, while their supporting bowlers took 367 wickets at 25/50.

wait for subs to turn this into “hence proved that Ashwin Jadeja are ****” instead of the truth being that India’s supporting act spinners are much better now

then he turns it into an argument of “well Ashwin and Jadeja are threatening only because they have a good supporting act”
No, it's mostly about the wickets they play on. I don't deny Ashwins skill but the prevalence of rank turners compared to previous decades has perhaps amped him up by 50-70 wickets or so. Yes, there have been flatter wicket and slower wickets in between, but the mean in terms of turners has increased dramatically. The best indicator are the impressive series hauls taken by foreign spinners across the decade. We haven't seen anything like this.

Kumble on these wickets would be averaging around 6 per test too with a low 20s average. It's like being a pacer in SA, only moreso.

The Aus team WI beat in 79/80 had Lillee, Thommo, Chappell bros, Border. The Eng team in 80/81 had Willis, peak Botham, Gooch, Boycott and others. They defeated also a strong England team in 76 also. Even India had Gavaskar, Amaranth, Vengsarkar and Kapil. India with their spin quartet were defeated by WI earlier in the 70s.

Pak in mid 90s were a good team. Australia defeated a strong Indian team in 2004/5 and a strong SL team in 2004.

All of these teams were defeated AWAY from home by the ATG sides.
Exactly.

The eras weren't weak or viewed through the gaze of rose tainted glasses of nostalgia.

I always thought strawman and the fact that scarecrows don’t have brains were related.

Doesn’t stop me from strawmanning of course.

Side was strong but the captaincy was ****. We lost 3-0 to a side we could have beaten 2-1. All three matches Australia came from behind, and the main reason was poor captaincy by Tillakaratne, and his inability to handle Warne (which he did admirably in earlier tours)

It would be fun to see current Indian. Lineup against Pakistanis of mid 80s. Each other nullifying opposition's spi options on pitches turning square.

And if all else fails, there’s always the “the opposition isn’t that good anyway”, while top teams struggled to beat mediocre Indian sides in the 90s in India.
They weren't mediocre in India in the 90s. In fact, I struggle to think of a time when India in India were ever mediocre.
