Whatever it takes!!!
I wont lay too much into Bazball for this defeat tbh. It comes with the territory. I feel they should have definitely played the situation better when we did not have Ashwin though.

Cant write them off based on one bad game.

The point is after thr 1st test I heard people saying so much for Bazzball not being able to win in India, and I thought yeah you won a Test but one performance doesn’t prove you can win a series in India!
England were a terrible side in 2021 and still dominated the first test in India. If this series ends with England just winning 1 test like 2021 can that really be called a success?
And at least they had the minefield pitch excuse in that one.

I think the d/n game was a very tough pitch but other than that, nope, they did not. If anything, the 2nd and 4th test pitches were far more balanced than the first which was very heavily skewed towards winning the toss.

Even this series so far, the toss winners have ended up match winners in 4 days across all 3 tests. AFAIC they have all been good cricket pitches. The worst tracks we have produced were Pune 2017 and the one where Australia won last year. The Ahmedabad d/n test pitch quality was exacerbated by how much the ping SG balls skidded under lights. I dont think the pitch itself was so bad but fair enough if you wanna count that as a minefield. Other than that, the pitches have been fine in India for a long time. I only remember the 2015-16 RSA series pitches and those 3 I mentioned earlier being really bad ones.

That's a fair point but the lack of 1st innings runs dictated the rest of the match.

India had the freedom in their 2nd innings to play as they did. If we'd scored 500, it's a very different approach form them in their 2nd innings.

Our spinners struggled in this test which isn't surprising given their lack of experience and indeed ability compared to India's.

We saw in the 1st test how Hartley ran through their batting when they were under pressure.

We need runs on the board to enable Hartley and Co to put the Indian batting on the back foot.

When they're ahead of the game, our spinners will really be up against it.
I mean India are facing Anderson/Wood/Rehan/Hartley/Root/Bashir while England are facing Ashwin/Jadeja/Bumrah/Siraj/Kuldeep/Axar/Mukesh. Which bowling attack is going to be easier to face in India? Honestly?

The lack of 1st innings runs can be somewhat attributed to the fact that the better attack is being better.

We all know that in Indian conditions, India are a better team than England - but particularly their bowling.

To bridge that gap, we have to perform at our best with India underperforming - which is pretty much what happened in the 1st test.

We lost 8 wkts for 98 in our 1st innings - that wasn't primarily due to great Indian bowling but some really poor batting.

Yes it's tough for our batters against a top notch Indian attack but if we are to get back into the series, we need big 1st innings runs.

Imran was either a batter or a bowler.
Imran does have a 10for and 100 in the same game though ..

Whilst 34 instances of 5for and a 100 have happened in Test cricket ..

Only 3 occasions have cricketers got 10 wickets in a match while scoring a hundred ..

Ian Botham vs India at Mumbai 1980
Imran Khan vs India at Faisalabad 1982
Shakib Al Hasan vs Zimbabwe at Khulna 2014

I wonder if anyone will ever do the Golden double ..

A 100 in each innings and a 5for in each innings..

As a bloke I've no time for Beefy - he's a grade A tool at times but he has one heck of a record as an all rounder when he was at his peak.
