There's also that Kallis averages lower than 35 in no country he played in, Ponting does.....It does show that statistically there isn't much to differentiate Kallis and Ponting except for Ponting's far better SR.
35 and roundabout is weak and Kallis did that in Eng and SL. Although Ponting was much worse in IndThere's also that Kallis averages lower than 35 in no country he played in, Ponting does.....
35 and roundabout is average, not great but moderate really; 25 and roundabout is ****.....35 and roundabout is weak and Kallis did that in Eng and SL. Although Ponting was much worse in Ind
Ponting failed in only one country whereas Kallis was below par in two countries. So like I said hard to say one is significantly worse. There's also that Kallis averages lower than 35 in no country he played in, Ponting does.....
No lmao..... Averaging 35 is a really stretch to say "failed"; Ponting is the only one who truly failed anywhere.Ponting failed in only one country whereas Kallis was below par in two countries. So like I said hard to say one is significantly worse.
Ponting then wins as an aggressive bat.
Fair enoughAll these arbitrary 35/40 thresholds are meaningless when Kallis averages a full 6 points higher than Ponting away from home. Ponting also never had a single truly great series away from home against a strong attack.
I'm pretty sure the earlier peaks get a solid perception boost. Of the bats in this poll, and the ones assumed to be ahead, the only one who wasn't running a 60+ average after a fairly decent chunk of tests is Sachin, who gets his own kind of early credit due to age.I’m curious. If Viv (for example) had his peak late in his career rather than early on, how would he be remembered/rated (assuming all other factors remain equal)? Similarly would other players who peaked late in their careers (Sanga, Anderson, Chanderpaul) be rated differently?

Meant who's the 5th best batsman ever.Gone for Richards as he is the best batsman but he's too good to be a number 5.
In chronological order. Test and first-class combined. What would your Top 10 batsmen list look like?
No Steve Smith, Hutton, Hammond, Headley, Gavaskar or Chappell before Barry Richards? Not complaining or anything, just interested in why Barry is rated so highly despite playing only 4 Tests and a few games in WSC.In chronological order. Test and first-class combined.
Grace, Trumper, Hobbs, Bradman, Sobers, Graeme Pollock, Barry Richards, Viv Richards, Lara, Tendulkar.
Because he watched him bat. And like literally everyone who has, decided he was one of the best batsmen he's seen.No Steve Smith, Hutton, Hammond, Headley, Gavaskar or Chappell before Barry Richards? Not complaining or anything, just interested in why Barry is rated so highly despite playing only 4 Tests and a few games in WSC.
