Hm, I had zero expectations of the 2019 tour there after the previous two series and still came away disappointed, so I'm assuming they will score 700/3 every first innings and we won't crack triple digits once.
Yeah 2019 still hurts praying for wickets that dont spin lyon will have field day if it does

So does Young get in ahead of Phillips after today?

Conway
Latham
Big Daddy
Ravindra
Mitchell
Young
Blundell
Jamieson
Henry
Southee
O’Rorke

King Kane

International Regular
I would still pick Phillips ahead of Young as he offers a spin bowling option and is also a great fielder as well as being a better middle order batsman.

Young scoring a fifty against a second rate SA side that had just about given up when he scored it isn't enough for me to pick him ahead of Phillips.

great win against larp africa yesterday for us

aussie will be a nice reality check

latham to stay, nicholls to return, drop phillips ravindra and rourke

wagner southee santner and a couple more 100km inswing bowlers as the attack, the young ones aren't ready to take on aussie now and they won't be in 2027 as well

Young is the better batsman but Phillips is the better #6

His playing back to spin in defense all the time gives me a heart attack though. Lyon will probably eat him alive if he tries to dig in.

hopefully conway and blundell turn up because these 2 do score quality runs against quality attacks

blundell fell off a cliff since that fluke england win

Agree - Phillips is unorthodox and far more likely to make counterattacking runs if we're in trouble than Young imo. Young is an ok reserve batsman and I hope he cracks the next chance he gets, but if Cummins/Hazlewood types are on a roll they'll just relentlessly target him around offstump and he'll edge behind or be lbw in no time. Whereas Phillips will try things to mix up their lines and lengths and while not guaranteed, it may work.

Honestly, I don't think they would've picked Jamieson and O'Rourke, so I'm not massively worried for the Test series.

Does make me worried for Jamieson's future, however, as he just can't stay fit.

I thought before this week they'd be looking at Wagner for Australia...but given he was 4th change in the 3rd innings in Hamilton, a situation he usually thrives in, I'm not so sure now.

Really interested in what our squad will look like, now Jamieson is out. Duffy? Seems to be bowling heat in the Ford Trophy. Smith?
