Why not give Henry (or Southee himself) the ball and look to keep it tight? Bowl dry, stack an offside field, play on their patience? I think having Wagner continue that approach made sense, especially given how poor Petersen looked against it. Rachin and Phillips at the other end was really weird though.

At least this is going to be a good test to see how we bat last under pressure.

But yeah this is really starting to hurt now.

A quality first test ton from Bedingham, hopefully now that he has got it he throws his wicket away.

The wicket of de Swardt will do nicely though, if we can't get Bedingham out the next best thing is to get out the guys at the other end.

This is shaping up to be a cracking test of NZ's ability to hold it's nerve. If NZ can keep the target to circa 300, that notionally shouldn't be that difficult against this SA attack on what still looks a fairly placid wicket. Having said that, the same was true in the first innings and look how that turned out.

Full props to Bedingham. The guy's been head and shoulders above the rest of the side all series. Any chance he gets a regular gig following this series?

Phillips is worth his weight in gold in the field. The likes of KW, Boult and Guptill used to grab Nightmare-mode half chances all the time, but it's been years since I can recall an NZ fielder catching anything as difficult as the one's Phillips has snared in this game.

Yeah he'll definitely be playing, the batting lineup isn't that far from full strength (just Markram, Bavuma, de Zorzi and Verreyne as keeper to come back in) and he debuted with everyone available right before this series anyway.

This may be a typical NZ deck that gets easier for batting as the match proceeds.

Chasing something like 320 is always tough but may not be as difficult as first thought.
