India Doom and Gloom Thread

Disappointed in Dravid's stint. There's been no explicit mission statement, just drift, perpetuating the previous management's tenets as dogma, and some outright bad tactical decisions. I get the feeling the team could've done as well without anyone at the helm.

Gavaskar's sounded off on Shaw for his lack of short ball technique but wasn't Shaw summarily dropped on account of his inability to keep Starc's inswinger out in the Adelaide dusk and not any perceived weakness against the short stuff? Has Sunny Pee been following him around the circuit under cover?

Nah, that's far too harsh on Dravid. He's had to deal with more inconsistency in lineups and general transition than Shastri, though Shastri as a manager/coach/official has a bigger portfolio than just being a coach from 2017-2021.
yeah Dravid hasnt brought in his own team yet but his failure to do so may also be a criticism of his stint depending on how much slack you give him for decisions above his head like selections and seniors

Whatever it takes!!!
Actually, except Rathore, the rest of the coaching staff were brought along by Dravid. And I think Rathore was also a Dravid pick originally as Shastri had Bangar as the batting coach in his set up.

While others just fake lamented lack of gambhiring without doing anything, I actually bumped this and none of you shits still cared.

And now, the home record is gone and the doom and gloom is back. The worst part is the fact that the next captain is just so unclear. They have played absolute musical chairs with all of Pant, Rahul, Bumrah, Pandya, SKY being our captains at different stages. We still do not have anyone clear cut to be our leader for the next generation side. And all of them seem to really want the captaincy as well, which is good if its in the right proportion but almost no one gets that balance right. :(

3-0 at home to NZ and 5-0 away to Aus will be worse the 8-0 in 2011.

Streaks are albatrosses around the neck anyway, only build complacence and anxiety the longer they go on. More importantly, this defeat makes it undeniable that we're on the cusp of a major transition teamwise and need to start looking for 3-4 alternatives for the big name players.

No, I think India can be proud of this particular period of dominance. I mean, after they trounced Aus in 2023 it almost felt unfair how ahead they were at home. I am sure if it wasn't complacency they would have won here too.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Streaks go from being something to be proud of to becoming something of a burden the longer they last. They also hide certain endemic issues on the back of a few strong suits, for example the deteriorating skills of our top order against spin.

I'm a big Indian fan but India needed this defeat , the team was becoming arrogant and using test series at home as prep for other series , also inconsistent selection policies where some had to work harder than others to get some game time it's a good wake up call

They've been doing that since the beginning.

Now to get my rocks off; it's time to kick Rohit. We need a new captain, Bumrah atm looks the most promising option. Gambhir's era has already proved to hit lower bottoms than Dravid-Shastri Eras combined. I knew it would had happened!! Fire that prude and higher someone else. Kohli should be gone post Australia; the most I can do is an English tour to finally get England average below 30. We need to seriously back Ash-Jadeja back-ups more. Kuldeep looks good, not convinced of anyone else given Axar is just 3 years younger of Jadeja. ****ing put a leash on Pant. Gill learn to play spin or get the **** out. Sarfaraz has always proved how good a fit he is, perfectly reckless and inconsistent by Indian middle order standards. Akash Deep being the 2nd coming of Shami is a joke, Siraj is Broad but even more inconsistent, which basically makes him hardly suitable for international. Shami, dude can you walk now?? So much for "oh I will be available for BGT, don't pay attention to rumours". And last but not the least, they are Kiwis Bumrah. Just Kiwis. There is not a single ****ing reason for you to channel your inner Varun Aaron when playing them, please.

Agree with most of the above and while I agree that Boom looks like the best captaincy option available, but he is just too too valuable to us that I would prefer not to burden him with captaincy. Give it to someone like Pant and hope that it reigns him in too.
As for Gambhir, get that guy out of here ASAP. Man has more ego than prime Richards with the tactics/knowledge of prime RCB. Need to sack Rohit too. For the BGT, if things don't improve by then we need to be brave and take decisions which might include dropping Rohit and maybe even Kohli altogether after the first couple of tests. Get Easwaran, Jurel etc in.
For the long term give Washi more chances, and develop someone promising like Sai Kishore from the domestic setup and for god's sake select the red ball team based on the domestic competition and not IPL!!
