Wonder if he actually knows the fielding side is allowed to appeal any time before the bowler starts their runup for the next ball.
There might be one of those private regulations in internationals which clarifies that you can't appeal after the replay has been shown.

Hell yes I'm so glad this has happened coz this is a cool debate to have

Yes there needs to be an appeal and yes that's a little nonsensical

Can't be right. You're telling me a bloke could be clearly run out and the umpire isn't give it out unless someone appeals?
Not just run outs, all dismissals. Crawley nicked one first day at Edgbaston last year but wasn't given out and rightly so because no one appealed.

Correct. Those are the laws. Obviously if the batsman decides to walk there doesn't need to be an appeal but otherwise yes the fielders must appeal.

Surprised there’s so much shitting on the ump/debate for one of the most fundamental rules/concepts in cricket (albeit I wasn’t aware of the point about very belated appeals possibly being legit)

There is a condition that says they can't use anything off the field for a formal player requested review, and another one that says they can't ask the umpire to send it upstairs except through a such a review. I suspect these would be pointed to as an arse-cover, but my own pedantic reading would be that neither of them actually apply in this case because it was not a formal player requested review and the issue was whether they appealed, not whether the umpire gave it out or not out.

Irrelevant anyway because Australian-raised hero Tim David did appeal

Sack the incompent hack (umpire, not David)
