South Africa team selection

We desperately need to identify an all rounder this year as well. Hopefully Wiaan Mulder can make the step up this year..

I would also try to phase out squad players like Hendricks in odi cricket , he'll be 37 by 2027 the year we host the WC, better off giving De Zorzi a bit of a run ..I'd phase out Bavuma, Miller, Rassie and Klaasen by the end of the Champions Trophy in 2025..
Not sure I would phase out Klaasen. He will be 36 at cwc. Warner was 37 and Maxwell 35 in aus winning team & on the Indian side Virat was 35 and Rohit 36.

I've followed Bedingham a bit ever since thinking he was in line for England (lol) and I rate him. You've found a dude imo.

Was a bit disappointed in KP. #6 should be productive for a man of his talent.

The medium pace allrounder is genuinely gold if he can bat (and he played alright second go). His bowling is peak troll.
Yeah and it's being spent in the wrong series

KP just gets stuck and gets out.

Saw a stat the other day.

Keegan Petersen in the Jo'burg and Cape Town Tests against India: 244 in 4 innings, 3 50s, AVG of 61

Keegan Petersen in all other Tests: 415 runs in 19 innings, 1 50, AVG of 21.8

The only thing he has done in his career so far is hand a series defeat to India.

:DGood old Ruan. Wouldn't make you think he was a good rugby player with the finesse of those little 120kphs

Think of it this way: that series defeat gets more and more hilarious if he continues to suck ever since.

Petersen is a lesser version of Bavuma for me. Bedingham looks like he could get big scores and win you games off his bat, Petersen doesn't. I've followed de Swardt since his Dolphin days but never got to watch him bowl for a long period of time. I think he is a better batsman in a classical sense than Jansen. I'm not sure if he is a better all-round batter than Mulder, but he doesn't have any credit with his batting at Test level.

De Swardt is an odd one, Scored 3 FC 100s but I think 2 were semi-pro. Often seemed to be left stranded at the Dolphins when he played. Batting and bowling suits FC most. Probably just lacks a bit of something to go on the international stage regularly? I have the same feeling with Mpongwana but he is improving so worth watching I guess.

No SA domestic 23/24 season thread? so I guess we can chat here. 2 Rounds of the 4-day series left. Can we see SA20 international players going back? 2nd last Round starts Wed.

Then it's more T20. Provincial T20 running similar time to IPL (I think) starting 8 March. I guess it's important for guys pushing for SA20 contracts. Think most know what a certain age group are capable after 2 seasons so main signings will be younger players for SA20 2025

15 players off to IPL
Du Plessis, De Kock, Rossouw, Markram, Klaasen, Miller, Stubbs, Brevis, Ferreira, M Jansen, Coetzee, Rabada, Ngidi, Nortje, Burger

Bedingham, Mulder overseas players already. Not even sure if Harmer is in reckoning anymore. Should be good to see Elgar add to his 48 FC 100s & keep climbing up the all-time SA list. Paterson got another season at Notts.

Centrally contracted with no other cricket after our season ends.
R Hendricks, Rickelton, Bavuma, VD Dussen, Petersen, Parnell, Fortuin, Maharaj, Shamsi, Magala

I imagine a few there will be following de Kock off the list when the new list comes out.

Could do with the younger guys getting County gig or A tour in this gap. Particularly the battingDe Zorzi, Hermann, Breetzke, Hamza, Verreynne etc

This is the best thing that could happen, as many players playing county and/or organised SA A games as possible.

Yeah, it has to be the finishing school, particularly for test aspiring players. Get a good domestic season in and or early identification from the pathways so you can get this opportunity as quick as possible.

So after this debacle of a Test series.... from a batting perspective Bedingham needs to be kept around. The rest need to go find some decent cricket practise and really stand up to be selected again. Just not been impressed. I would like to have a look at Breetzke and Hermann. Would Stubbs have a real shot at the longer format?

Aiden Markram
Tony de Zorzi
David Bedingham
Temba Bavuma
Ryan Rickelton
Kyle Verreynne
Ruan De Swardt/Wiaan Mulder
Marco Jansen
Keshav Maharaj
Kagiso Rabada
Anrich Nortje/Gerald Coetzee

The problem is I don't like Markram as an opener (prefer him at 4), I want to replace Bavuma. I`m not convinced about Brand coming in. And Rickelton seems to be out of favour? And since none of the other prospects have shown anything who would you select?

I think that is what I would go far with the possibilities of ;

Bavuma or Rickelton at 3
Stubbs over Verreynne. Just something to like about Stubbs' character.
Then do we get the extra quick in for the number 7

Our best young opener who has the balance of technique & quality shot options is Jordan Hermann but I think you go Markram/de Zorzi for now.

Rickelton as wk? Or Stubbs?

Hermann could come in when Bavuma retires, Markram down to 4 likely taking over as captain?

I honestly have no idea. It would be **** to throw Verreynne away so quickly again. Will give him the Windies series.

Then 2nd choice is prob 3-6 Bavuma, Bedingham, Rickelton (wk), Stubbs. Want Stubbs in the field but honestly didn't know he was such a decent wk.

We have all been going on about it for awhile... our entire batting order has turned into a bit of a joke. We used to talk about somebody like Duminy getting dropped because he failed to convert and did not perform well enough and should not be in the team. Now we have a similar batsmen in the team like Bavuma, who in recent times been one of our best and most dependable performers... if that is not an indictment of the team batting I don't know what is.
