Him and pretorius withdrew t20 contracts to play u19 wc.He has an SA20 contact, so isn't available.
u 19 players aren't contracted to csa!Yeah what's up with that , U19 WC no problem with letting players go , but different story for Test Cricket? I'm sure if they asked nicely enough they would allow a fringe player in Maphaka to be released
If you replaced Moore with Markram that would be as close to a best top 6 in Test for SA. Picking Verreynne/Rickelton at 7 as wk. Bowling this series is likely to be the real weak point. Not much said about the warm-up game against a NZ XI that started today . There can be a couple of statements made , especially by Batsman this series for a potential full squad call up .
The first innings is hinting at this strongly with 6 Batsman retiring not out . Neil Brand, Reynard Van Tonder , Zubayr Hamza , Keegan Peterson , Khaya Zondo and Ruan De Swart .
If New Zealand takes this team lightly it will be to their detriment . In my personnel opinion some of the cricketers selected for this tour ( Neil Brand and Raynard van Tonder for me personally) has been around and deserves a shot regardless of situation currently . So its not a weak side by any means .
Actually excited for the first game this Sunday , Hoping Brand and Van Tonder gets a go . Brand as a genuine spinning all rounder option will help the main 11 and Van Tonder has a unteachable skill on occupying a crease for a very long time that seems missing with our first 11 bats and often overlooked due to high scoring (Entertaining ) cricket .
Batting needs to start grabbing their opportunities.I think for us the future of our batting looks really really good , however bowling is a much bigger problem IMO , our stocks hasn't looked this bleak in a while . You would be hard pressed to name 10 bowlers under 26 that is bubbling under . Batting we have maybe 20+ under 26 .
Yea Agreed , a lot of opportunities for the Batsman after this world cup and in the next 4 to 6 year cycle replans . This is going to very interesting because there is such an abundance of young talent . Good problem to haveBatting needs to start grabbing their opportunities.
You right. Oddly there does seem a little gap in that group for the bowling. But a couple have been fast-tracked already.
Luckily our current group still have a few years left in them.
Rabada, Nortje, Ngidi, Burger, Williams, Baartman, Dupavillon [Parnell, Magala, B Hendricks, Paterson, Olivier]
Still think we will always find them though
M Jansen, Coetzee
Probably the support for them is Swanepoel, E Bosch, Sipamla and the future is Boast and Maphaka.

On the bowlers you mentioned not many will be around in 5 years even the backups are around 25+ . Also Boast is a good shout however 17 year old Maphaka is a stretch and part of the worry that we need to look that far.
Bowlers hardly play well over 30 and if they do timeline normally ends at 32 and injury prone is more prominent in bowlers ,were batsman can reach 35 plus in years.
The only ones i can think of that isnt mentioned in your list that's a shout is Mihlali Mpngwana , Duan Jansen and Caleb Seleka . By my count that's 22 . We will lose more than half of them if not more before the 2027 world cup cycle .
All I will say is that SA batting woes have less to do with talent and more to do with opportunity. The failure of the domestic structure combined with the issues at CSA have left a lot of quality batsmen not growing their game and stagnating at a poor FC level. Then getting treated poorly when they don't instantly step up at test level, if even selected.Next Gen Batting has been issue worldwide but focusing on us, it has hurt us badly. Elgar's retirement came too soon for our test team & likewise de Kock for Tests/ODI. Not sure we will learn much in the NZL series bar from Petersen, Bedingham and Hamza here. Interesting will be the white ball teams with the younger batsman shining in the SA20 too.
Age batsman/WKs are turning in 2024
35- R Hendricks, Rossouw , vd Dussen, Miller
34- Bavuma
33- Klaasen
32- de Kock
31- Petersen
30- Markram, Bedingham
29- Hamza
28- Rickelton
27- de Zorzi, Verreynne
26- Breetzke, van Tonder, Mulder, van Buuren, Ferreira
25-
24- Stubbs
23- Hermann
22-
21- Brevis
Absolutely. Politics starts at U13 level and really when you start diluting talent at U19 to senior level it becomes a problem on the person and the cricketer. Interesting hearing Elgar say he is done with the international bullshit, not cricket in an interview recently. All I will say is that SA batting woes have less to do with talent and more to do with opportunity. He has 3 more innings on this tour so let's hope we see more of him. He is the youngest of this crop as well.I truly wonder what has happened to van Tonder. Because he was the highest and second highest (behind Markram) run scorer in the 19/20 and 20/21 seasons. He got called up for the SA squad and since then nothing.
