How many people have followed a ton with a king pair?

Head is dictionary definition of rocks and diamonds isn't he
Very definition of an eye player

Easy to forget that he looked terrible for a fair % of his ton last match but that’s what you get from him

the last time West Indies played a test in the middle of the ipl season was in 2017

it isnt the main ipl that is the worry but the numerous mini ipl’s that have sprung in the last 2 years
Late February to early May used to be pretty much the West Indies' season. SA T20 plus IPL kills that. Now they're playing a lot of tests in late June, and the MLC might just kill that.

Congrats to Windies

Was absolutely dreading this series but they sure proved me wrong

Brilliant to see the emergence of another quick

As for Australia, Smith looked like he was batting on a different pitch to everyone else and it was a shame that Green got out just as he was looking good

Uzi & Carey were good in the first innings but Marnus, Mitch & Trav were poor to dreadful

Hopefully, media can now shut up about 2023 as we really weren’t that good

Could make a whole bracket tourney full of "mediocre Shield hacks who got a few Tests for Australia in the 2010s". Not just Doolan, Quiney and Cowan but also Maddinson, Finch. Throw Cartwright and Patterson too though they don't fall under the same "proven journeymen who inevitably fail" category as the others.
The Maddinson one was just staggering. Patterson, in the same side, had been doing significantly better. They talked about his ability as a 'game breaker' despite not having that much in his record, and it was particularly galling that Ferguson (there's another name for you) was dropped after only getting one chance. I almost felt sorry for him he looked so inept against Rabada, but that lessened when he looked just as bad against that truly awful Pakistan 'attack'.

With Finch he'd scored all his runs at 5 and with Renshaw having showed some promise and Khawaja's tons opening against SA it was staggering they chose to discard Renshaw and play Finch completely out of position, and then after his ton opening in the UAE dropped Khawaja back to three and had Finch and Harris opening against India. It was a big missed chance by Langer to make the best of a bad situation.

Oh man I had forgotten about Ferguson. They really just never end (Joe Mennie in the same game if we're looking at bowlers too)

"Come good" probably the wrong wording, "find form again" probably closer to the mark.
The FC competition starts in a couple if weeks. Brathwaite needs to be playing as many games as possible in it rather than sitting on the sidelines.

He's went back to fishing outside off and needs to get some runs on the board.

I've always got the impression the Basin is pretty small, but that's more the spectator capacity rather than the playing surface isn't it? Seems like a case for double-tier stands a la Lord's, though that would spoil the ground's appearance.

Do you think Auckland is going to get a test ground any time in the near future? I see there's talk about Colin Maiden Park, but talk is different to action.
Yeah the Basin only fits about 10k because it's literally a giant roundabout and most of it is cricket field.

iirc they're going ahead with a new ground in Auckland. Hopefully it wasn't Colin Maiden since it's the flattest motorway in the country.

Ferguson was always highly rated on here. His breakout season was always next season though.

Weirdly he got ODI chances, did alright, then got punted at random.

I really did feel sorry for Mennie. He'd put in good performances domestically and bowled okay in a situation with absolutely no pressure on SA, but he should have failed the 'eye' and speed gun test, and passing up picking Bird on the ground where he takes wickets for fun (on that type of pitch too) because Mennie was the better bat? Ugh. Dire.

It really exemplifies the sort of selection philosophy that I have become implacably opposed to these days though (which is why I really never want to see either Bancroft or Harris again) - the prioritisation of short term FC statistics shorn of context or like, watching any of the cricket involved

No he ****ed his knee during a game and never really got a chance again. He wasn't dropped from the ODI side after his excellent start

I don't think it's right to class Maddinson in with that group, he wasn't even a mediocre FC player in the way that the others were. That was a pure potential punt. And tbf, he got a ton of **** when he flamed out while Handscomb and Renshaw scored tons straight away, and then by Ashes next summer, Renshaw was gone and Handscomb got dumped for MMarsh partway through and they were all out of the team and none of them have really established themselves
