Athanaze looks like a classy operator but he needs to work on his patience because he's playing at way too many good length balls outside off.

It would've been tough for Usman, but I think if Smith didn't go for it he would've hade a good shot of catching it.

Pretty balanced session. Probably a slight edge to the WIndies maybe? Australia mostly bowled pretty well but it's a flat deck and West Indies had a bit of luck. Needed to bowl a bit better with the new ball but it wouldn't have mattered if Smith had hung on.

How many catches have we dropped this game? Been pretty sloppy allround, honestly.
At least 3. Plenty of misfields too. I think the conditions aren't helping but the basics which Australia typically do so well just aren't seen here.

With the way he's batted I'm worried that Smith might be legit done. Not saying drop him, but if he fails in New Zealand he absolutely has to go down the order at least.

Agree, esp as WI scored at a fairly decent clip.

In hindsight, Oz needed to get 2 wickets, probably 3, in that night session last night.

We would have had two last night if Smith didn't drop kraigg. Issue was more starc wasting the newish ball this morning, IMO. All game it's been piss easy to bat once the ball gets soft, feeding the windies a bunch of half volleys to drive early on was terrible.

There’s always the golden child fielder from every country who the comms say that about but who invariably drops their fair share. See also Green in the gully, who’s good but can also drop sitters
Green is the best gully fielder in the world, and probably up there with the best ever. I don’t think I’ve seen him drop more than 2-3 catches in his career so far, and considering he pulls off stunners every other innings it’s a pretty good rate.

Green has been horribly unlucky today. Would have 3/4 on a different day. The fact that we're still regularly creating chances with the older ball is a bit concerning though. Chasing could be a pain even if we get through the new ball.

He’s played 25 tests. How many does the best fielder in a given position have to drop in that short a span for the hype to die down a bit?
