NZ domestic season 2023/24

I think ND re-branding both the men's and women's teams with the same name is woke.

I don't mind, I never used the nicknames. Although I'm more likely to use the name the Bravemen, but as a sarcastic pejorative , than I would ever have used the old one.

Same name makes sense tho.

What's even the point in having two names? Who cares?

The names are dumb anyway. The only ones that work (sometimes) are the NPC ones because they relate to something to do with that region. Bulls, Mooloos, Turbos etc.

ND fans should probably worry more about winning games and selecting outside the Hamilton club catchment than an invasion of wokeness.

Plus, go woke, get money. *points at Womens RWC, Pat Cummins, various corporate entities jumping on the gravy train*

I do find it a bit confusing both having the same name, if you say Firebirds or Blaze everyone knows if you mean men or women, with Brave you have to specify.

Didn’t NZC want all the sides to change to using the same name for men’s and women’s, but sides objected? Having built a brand for their women’s sides. And Northern ended up being the only one who did it.

Having the same name for both seems to have been pretty successful in the WBBL and Hundred.

I must confess to getting a bit confused with the Phoenix's results as Stuff doesn't differentiate between the men's and women's team in the headline and I'm not a big follower of the Phoenix so I can't differentiate based on "Phoenix win/lose against Perth" or whatever headline is used as I don't know which team is playing Perth. Hardly a big deal though.

Where's controversial old time member Blocky? He'd have some spicy takes on ND cricket.
Not sure where he went after his banning. His ND intel was interesting although taken with a grain of salt. He certainly was certainly right about Wagner becoming a successful test player when it was looking uncertain.

It's about the main reason I like the teams having different names - there's no ambiguity in terms of the team to which your are referring. Even if most of the names follow a similar theme to the men's names (Aces/Hearts, Stags/Hinds, Firebirds/Blaze, etc.), it shows that they have an identity of their own instead of sounding like weirdo franchise nonsense (with that said, these nicknames aren't that old themselves, likely about as old as me).

This is my main gripe against the Brave, but in fairness Knights/Spirit was the one that never made sense to me. I still find Canterbury's change from Wizards to Kings annoying. Wizards is original & sounds cool, while Kings makes them sound like they're owned by Preity Zinta.

Super Smash elimination final in half an hour. Henry–Jamieson–O'Rourke–Sodhi up against Conway–Rachin–Macewell–Abbas: hype!
Really looking forward to today's games. Not going to be able to see the finals, so it's my last Super Smash fix of the season.

If Zak Foulkes scores some red ball runs he could ruin Nathan Smiths whole career.

And Clarkson. And finish Neesham.

He's medium pace but this swing he gets is so dumb. I love him. Most fun bowler in the country.
