I'd be surprised if the deck was overly spicy this year. They wouldn't want to get a dodgy deck reputation by serving up two day games two years running, especially with India next year and the Ashes the year after and the scheduling being a lot more volatile than it used to be.

But if they do lose a couple of days they might want to rush a result or get a "game ruined by rain" reputation

While it’s always an utter **** hole of a place, Brisbane in January generally plays easier than late November- early December. Last B-G series a classic example

Fraser-McGurk (and Xavier Bartlett) added to the ODI squad

I love JFM's vibe but it's a big call. There would have to be dozens of other domestic bats over him on pure output

The weather here is horrendous atm

On Friday and yesterday, it was 34-35 degrees with 90% humidity which apparently is the equivalent of 42 air temperature

Rain is dependent upon direction cyclones take up north

Not sure why Maxwell needs a rest in the ODIs over Head who is playing all 3 formats.

JFM literally plays Bazball and picking him for Australia is a Bazball selection. High risk and potentially high reward though personally I've never rated him.

Yeah I have no issue with this tbh. If you're going to make weird picks like this then now is the time.

Not to be dramatic but 35C at 90% RH isn't horrendous, it's borderline uninhabitable

You can't even come close to melodrama with the conditions up there. I don't recall it ever being as horrendous growing up in Brisbane, just getting from A to B feels like walking the Kokoda trail.

Visited over Christmas for two days and it's almost convinced me that I should never move back. There's nothing like taking a step towards the shower, already getting drenched from your own juices, stepping out of the shower, patting yourself down and you need to do it again, and and again. And by the time your clothes are on, they're already drenched too.

All this by 10am. Getting back off the plane in Sydney was a certified delight.

To address the cricket though, JFM in early is a high IQ move and progressive. Same with Bartlett, not sure where he's been all Shield season, should be playing over Sandhu unless he was injured conveniently right up until the BBL.

I don't care if Sandhu's taking them at 25 a pop, just about anyone with a bowling licence is at the moment.

Brisbane always feels warmer due to its inland location whereas at least the GC usually has coastal breezes to keep things in check but hasn’t been that way recently

Last few days have seen bright blue skies but place is like a sauna away from the beach

We have a nursery in the hinterland and had to move as many young plants as possible into shade/greenhouses with refrigerated misting system running as they were wilting by 9am

Mcgurks a fine call as a maxwell backup. What other young bat can replicate Maxwell's odi batting numbers? Davies maybe?
