No cause tomorrow it will be over and it doesn't do the future of test cricket any favours in SA ..
Although I can imagine it must be entertaining for those who don't care about these kind of implications for sa cricket.
I would rather have bowler-friendly conditions than 550-5 v 600-4 however this is too far the other way and is not a fair ‘test’ for batsman and bowler.

On a one-off basis it is exciting to see something like this however too frequently would be dull - like a side scoring 200 in a T20 is fun as an exceptional achievement but now something you want to see each time.

Just caught up with the highlights - excellent catching from Jaiswal and Jansen today

One of the batsmen to get dismissed twice in a single day in South Africa besides Dean Elgar is Brian Charles Lara (who was dismissed by Andre Nel both times.)

I am sure that there are many more.

Is 4 day test cricket the future?

Maybe south africa would play more test series.

Cheers Dean. What a crazy day. I watched most of it and literally missed just 30 minutes which included a 6 wickets burst for 0 runs! Insane. I feel for Tristan Stubbs but I haven't seen much of him in anything but T20 cricket to have an opinion about his technique just yet. Markram is the one SA batsman that can score quickly and put pressure on the bowlers so it really is important that he sticks around tomorrow for SA.

Imagine a turning track in India that produces 23 wickets on day 1 of a test. Knives would be out.

looking at the list of most wickets on day 1 of a test, all the 20+, are in Australia, South Africa and England.

But,
Fast pitch = sporting,
turning track = doctoring

The pitch isn’t good but it’s apparently a curator mistake not doctoring

Weather around this series hasn’t been good

Incompetence of batsmen not leaving balls outside off needs to be factored in as well.

Complacency from some batsmen to throw their wickets away.

Markram looks good though.

6/0 is abysmal even for our tail which has no standards to speak of. I've not suffered damage like that in book cricket back in high school even. SA to run up 250 or thereabouts and us shitting the bed again chasing 150.

Wouldn't be surprised if India's lead's enough, but if the pitch doesn't ease more it could be a hairy chase. Of course I would've have thought they'd get annihilated the way they did in the last innings of the previous test either. And there's that tail.

I know the cricket season is cramped, but starting such an important test financially for SA on Wednesday was a big error IMO.
Starting tests on Monday to Wednesday is always an error IMO. Regardless of that SA'll be eating a big loss on a match it looked like they were going to get a good crowd on several days for.
