Two debutants.
South african test cricket is at its lowest in living memory.
We also only play two twst matches a year, 4 days of cricket will blow most of these players minds.

Hardly baffling imho
This applies to 2021 when India were a settled team. This current side is a mess because of a number of reasons. Anyone who considered them big favourites just hasn't been paying attention.

Did Pollock seriously say south africa were underdogs this series? I'm sorry, I wholeheartedly reject that notion and anyone who thought that was wrong. This India team is way worse than the one that lost in 2018 and 2021. Baffling statement.
Their batting is really poor at least at the beginning. Underdog tag is not surprising for me given India is a well oiled machine in all formats

Maybe someone asked this already but when is the last time south africa scored 400+? (When it wasn't an ODI)

Bangladesh in 2022, and a top 4 nation?

No idea where he got that idea. The side that won the last series here was weaker. If anything SA favorites or too close to call.

Beware of the debuting South African quick against India. Ngidi, Jansen and now Burger all at Centurion.

Haven't caught much of the game but I see Bavuma is moving. He couldn't have tried to get Jansen the hundred?

Whatever it takes!!!
I think the toughest pill to swallow is how we could have played far better and got everything right and we still would have been, at best, 50-50 to win the game. We are so far outclassed in these conditions with this side that even with a complete performance, we need things like toss and 50-50 calls going our way to even go above even chance.

I mean, we could have batted better and made 300 here in the first innings. Bowled better and got them out for 350. And we still would have most likely lost the game. In a way, its less painful when we are outplayed to such an extent than those 2 losses in 2021 even though we played far better in those games.

From a RSA point of view, I think the issue is how much better some of their players look and do at home than away. Unsurprisingly, they seem to struggle in England with the different ball while they generally compete in Aus and win in NZ. I think with Maharaj and Harmer they can still be competitive at times in SENA. I hope this Bedington remains a good player for them down there for a while. Kinda wanna see Markram bat 4 as well. Maybe go with Zorzi and their next best opener, Bedington 3, Markram 4, Bavuma 5.

Great to see new bowlers stepping up and replacing two excellent quality bowlers they missed this game. Hopefully they can rebuild enough make it to the top of the rankings across all formats.

Wow I really didn't expect things to wrap up that quickly. Brilliant performance from SA, especially with 10 men. Burger was brilliant. I'm happily eating humble pie about the level I thought he was at.
Burger was not showing that level until the last few years ... It's great to see!

I think Rohit is not in a good space mentally. Seems like still struggling to digest the WC loss. Won't be massively surprised if he calls it as the captain in tests
Wow, I mean it was a massive loss, but I didn't think it would hit them that bad.

Having said that, it is very quickly after the Cup loss. Should have had a month longer before this tour.
