**Official** English Football Season 2023/24

ETH seems to hate a double pivot so he will play Amrabat or Mainoo with someone like Hannibal as the AM. He could maybe play Eriksen if he’s fit. Can’t even track who is not injured these days.
Yeah that's a good point.

Hannibal won't be much value on Sunday, but heh might get some comedic value out of him kicking players so small victories and all that.

Ten Hag's interview where he said Utd's CL campaign was"very good" and one he has no regrets over was excellent comedy. Keep it up Eric old boy.

How the **** do you score 3 goals in each away game and take 1 point?
Takes effort. Comedic defending. Fullbacks who don’t defend, wingers who don’t track back, keeper errors, McTominany thinks he’s Lampard with less work rate. Long list. The Rashford red when leading was critical.

From the athletic

The team are tactically illiterate going forward. They don’t score goals, they don’t create chances. They are reliant on a teenager (Garnacho), a twenty year old striker who looks exhausted and gets zero service, and a guy purchased for £80m who is struggling to justify a price tag a tenth of that and who apparently has made it to professional level whilst being incapable of using his right foot. The reserve striker can’t be bothered and is stealing a living. The starting left winger is rank out of form inexplicably. The other option on the right has an awful attitude and would rather sit it out and train with the U16 than apologise for unprofessional behaviour. The left back can’t stay fit, the right back is championship level. And the club captain can’t dribble, create chances, assist or score. The midfield is totally disjointed and cannot supply the attack. The defence can’t defend and the goalkeeper appears not to be able to stand in the right place or react to incoming shots.

So I feel for Erik. He’d like to attack and scored goals. I’d like a Ferrari for Christmas.

He tried to offload both Maguire and McTominay and then both ended up starting due to injuries and the low squad quality.

I would go full Jose with a double pivot, the best 4 defenders fit (so no Dalot or Reguilon) with your best 2 wingers who will track and just play McTominay as the sole AM. I fear he will chase the game being an optimist and so 4+ defeat is on the cards.

We've really fallen off a cliff. Was inevitable with injuries x Howe's method. Though the two are probably linked.

PSG or Newcastle, can't say I fancy either of them in Europa. I'd probably lean towards facing Newcastle if we had to, don't want a bar of Mbappe in a knockout game. The problem with this is that Dortmund could very easily play a second string side knowing they are already through and they have a league race to try get back into.
Milan drop into Europa. What a great result haha

Not hugely in the detail but with United and Newcastle finishing 4th in their respective groups there's a decent chance EPL won't have the coefficient score to get another UCL spot for next season.

Could have some big consequences for sides such as Spurs/Villa/Newcastle if 5th is Europa League again.

They certainly feel more shambolic don't they although this could just be because of the way football media is now. Maybe people did talk about Liverpool this way and I just didn't realise it.
I did wonder this, but I am sure that in that period Liverpool still remained fairly competitive, if not at the level required to contest the title. They were always decent against Arsenal back in those days, and had several players who were genuinely very good, like Fowler and McManaman, and later Owen etc. I certainly don't remember them ever to be as comically bad as Utd seem to be at the moment.

By the early 2000s they had the whole '5 trophies' season as well.

Of course United have actually won trophies in this era but they now seem to exist purely for people on podcasts to talk about how not to run a football club.
