Every decade since the 80's has seen the addition of new test members
80's - Sri Lanka
90's - Zimbabwe
00's - Bangladesh
10 's - Afghanistan and Ireland

Who will be the latest cricketing nation to get test status ?

With regret, I went for no new teams. I fear that a more immediate question might be who will the first to stop playing tests.
If any team did, it would probably not be dramatic, more of a quiet fade out, followed by the local first class competition being quietly discontinued.

No teams. Test cricket is only profitable in 3 countries. The rest rely on series from those 3 countries.

Zimbabwe, Afghanistan & Ireland barely even get games as it is. More likely to lose a team than gain one

Unofficially we've already lost Zimbabwe tbh.

If you had to choose one I think it really needs to be a team that isn't carried by players from Test-playing nations

Netherlands are mostly leftovers from NZ, South Africa, Australia etc.

Unfortunately, I voted for no new teams.

Cricket Ireland has stated it costs too much to host tests, especially when the big 3 aren't going to be the opposition.

Until the WTC gets expanded or we end up with test divisions, I don't see any new nations playing tests.

Definitely Nepal ..

Cricket is the second most popular sport in the country after football, theres over 3000 cricket clubs , they get great attendances at home , they've got 14 cricket grounds, good youth teams and right next door to a host of established cricketing nations whom share no annomosity to Nepal. Only a matter of time i feel.

I said it in a previous thread, but the full membership thing is archaic and wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing disappears once international cricket is irrelevant and membership is redrawn so that all countries can opt in/out of different formats to cut operating costs. It's worked so well with t20i status, so it has merit. It might even be helpful if teams like Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka get the option to dip in and out when needed without jeopardising the rights they have now.

The plus side is teams ranked 10+ would at least be able to offer security to longer-term sponsors and it should be easier by then to organise fixtures against the top 10 as most countries will only be fielding 2nd/3rd XI strength sides outside of World Cups with the first-choice players tied up with some desert franchise t10 league.

I beg the ICC not to dilute it any more. TBH I would strip it back to 10 - max. BD are now too far embedded to scrap, but no more. T20 is the medium with which to expand cricket.

As it is, BD, NZ, Eng, Pakistan, SL, WI are all in some degree of strife as test sides.

Bangladesh have started to win a few tests in the last 8 years or so, before that they were poor in test cricket to the point fans would question why are they even playing test cricket at international level. But since they improved, good for them and keep on improving. So they will likely stay....

Zimbabwe only wins a test match once in a blue moon, but they are in it for a long time now and really nothing has improved, so some questions maybe raised.

Afghanistan and Ireland haven't played enough test cricket to be counted by record and performance wise, but they can still improve.

So a fair call would be in order to introduce a new international team in test cricket, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland have to improve and be a competitor to other teams and start winning a few matches regularly.

Or is there a scenario where a new team is replaced by an existing team? Maybe ICC introduces a fixed amount of teams that can play international tests?

Now who is the favorite to become the next test team? I would rank them in order:

1- Netherlands
2- Nepal
3- Scotland
