Just have to say, a Windies win is always special. It's rare these days but it's such a sweet feeling. Today's win reminded me of when I was a youngster and our team consisted of future legends...we played hard and challenged any opposition.
The highest target successfully chased by our team at home...ah, I'll savor it.

We should enjoy the fact we have a genuinely world class batsman in at least one format. Shai is exceptional.
Bring in Pooran for Carty and this batting lineup will start looking very dangerous.

Just caught up with this one, great result to the West Indies, well done to them. For all WI have had their struggles across formats, if there is one team they can tend to grow an extra leg against more often than any other, it's England.

The case with too many England batsmen, and way too much focus by some to maintain an SR of over 100 instead of more focus on keeping their wicket intact, partnerships going and thus maybe, just maybe, going on to make a big total on a pitch instead of a more average one

spinners going at 4.5 rpo, quicks going at 7.8, closest Curran has come to doing something meaningful bar a handy late knock was closing in on his hundred - with the ball! needs to up his game bigtime to repay 'faith' selectors seem to have in him, above and beyond mickey mouse format

Buttler - The man looks utterly lost both with the bat and as a leader. Why did he not bowl Jacks, was it too obvious? Why not give the gloves to Salt and take one responsibility off him. Alternatively, let Crawley skipper. Juts looks like he needs a break.
Curran - Surely we're done with him in ODI's now.
Rehan and Atkinson - At least a couple of good signs from these two.
Mott - It's becoming obvious that any old fool could've coached that Aussie Women's Team and that Lanning was probably the biggest influence anyway. We seem to be going backwards under his coaching and are making some glaring mistakes on strategy. This tour could be his last if he doesn't turn it around.

the only conclusion I could draw was to give him a further chance in non-Indian conditions but he's looking more and more like the noughties bits n pieces selections, can bat, can bowl, rarely does either with any great prowess and doesn't chip away with consistent performances
now "boasts" an average of 42.27 in ODIs, I know a fair few will bleat limited overs is about ER and SR, but actually wickets define a lot of both and funny how the good bowlers in all formats have good averages - Bumrah 23.55, Shami 23.68, Starc 22.97.....
he does have a decent batting average for a number 8-9, although Starc averages nearly as much and not considered as much of an all-rounder, but 23 innings, one of them 95no, leaves a less impressive 18 average if you take out the skew (95no) to give a fairer impression of his returns although to be fair in 2023 his average is about the same as overall and he didn't score 95no in 2023.....
of course you could argue Jacks and Salt need to up their game also, Jacks has a decent 37.20 career average BUT off 5 innings and against Bangladesh, Ireland and West Indies so hardly cream of the crop, Salt similar in who played and scored against, 15 innings but 82.67 vs HOL, 44.50 vs IRE, 45 vs WIN (one innings), ignore 5 innings vs Ireland and Holland and you get 25.70 average
Like Curran he is on a jolly to boost confidence, figures and chances of continued selection. I suppose at least Brook looks as if he has worked out ODIs, maybe, instead of bish, bash, out, the trademark of eg Ali, actually got in, stayed in, shame Salt, Jacks and Duckett all lost their wickets after starts to leave England 110/3 although not sure what would have been enough with the bowling attack pretty weak - and why England no doubt decided to take Wood, Woakes, Willey etc, tried and trusted even if the old timers that did a job in England in 2019 didn't so much (as a unit) in India 2023 (not that picking half this team would have enhanced the chances)

I was perplexed to see Sam Curran in the squad after him being so utterly useless in the World Cup. I know that this is one of the most meaningless series that we could possibly play, from an English perspective, but even so we should be looking at players who can really be part of the setup in four year. Curran simply shouldn't be there.

It's surely more about the T20 series anyway as prep for the World Cup back here in 6 months.
