Fmd we’re in for a rough few years
Tbf plenty of squads have players in the thirties who won't be around in 4 years or will be nowhere near the level they are atm. The Aussie, NZ and England squads especially.

Going forward obvious lesson as stated a few posts ago, India need a sixth bowler and fielding needs to be tightened up, big difference between them and Australia. No excuse for a side like India with all their resources to have donkeys fielding.

Meanwhile Kohli and Rohit are taking a break from ODIs and T20s. Kohli's not going to be playing the LO stuff in SA and when Afghanistan tour in Jan. I think those are the only T20I games before the T20 WC starts (there's the IPL in March of course).

Both of them last played a T20I in the previous T20 WC. If it stays that way - would it be the first instance of players playing only world cups and nothing in between?

Very interesting schedule for India.

We play these 2 remaining T20s in INdia tomorrow and sunday and then we have our T20I series against RSA kicking off next sunday.

And the sunday after that, we are playing 3 ODI series against RSA.

I am assuming we are not gonna play any of our test players in these series, except maybe Shreyas, Ishan, Jaiswal.

Squads I would hope we go with to RSA -

White Ball -

Jaiswal, Rutu, Ishan (wk), Shreyas (vc), SKY (c), Rinku, Washy, Axar, Bishnoi, D Chahar, Mukesh, Arshdeep, Shardul, Prasidh/Avesh, Jitesh (wk), Kuldeep.

Tests -

Jaiswal, Rohit (c), Gill, Virat, Ishan(wk), Shreyas, Jaddu, Ash, Shami, Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh, Shardul, Rahul, Axar, Rutu.

Shri

Mr. Glass
he should be used like how sri lanka used samaraweera

only at home and ideally not in important games

Wicketkeeper- Naman Ojha is the single best with the bat for the longer form of the game, but him not being safe behind the stumps is a valid concern. The same, though, can also be said of Saha- someone who's played plenty of games as a specialist batsman is hardly trustworthy behind the stumps. Karthik was far and away the best wicketkeeper in India, among the prospects, but his last international appearances had him spilling enough chances to make Dhoni look a top keeper. Maybe he's back to his best with the gloves, so he can have a shot. Maybe India can pick a wicketkeeper who's inferior with the bat, as long as he's solid behind the stumps- and leave the run-scoring to a bowler.
I know this post is really old; but I truly find it fascinating that there was a time when people weren't confident in Saha's keeping but were in his batting; and they were confident in Karthik's keeping but not batting.....

Man given Ishan's recent form with the gloves, I wish Rahul could keep in Tests as well.....

Nothing short of reckless endangerment exposing Iyer on SA tracks. That's not even a snarky comment; the guy can get genuinely hurt with his technique. Does he sign a waiver in case of injury because he ought to sue the BCCI if he gets messed up....

Assuming everyone is fit, the xi is probably

1.Jaiswal
2.Rohit
3.Gill?
4.Kohli
5.?
6.Kishan/Pant
7.Jadeja

If iyer doesn't bat 5 who does? Rahane? Iyer has issues vs the short ball but he's a step above the other options india have for that spot AFAIK.
