That was more to do with Robertson and Tierney being our 2 best players and coming up with a system that allowed both to play.
Yeah cruel that your 2 best players are full backs but to have 2 left backs and not one each side is taking the Michael.

Handball rule can go to actual ****ing hell. Add in bad interpretation of an already bad rule and you have a complete and utter steal. Get in the ****ing bin.

The common joke is that the offside rule is complicated, but the handball rules are something else. I genuinely couldn't begin to explain it.

Oh come off it, even the most diehard Gooner knows that was dire, especially with the timing, context and what was at stake here. And yeah the Joelinton one was a foul.
Oh, I’m not disputing that. Just funny to see how quickly Howe fell off his high horse about not criticising the officials.

I mean Arteta fell off his horse far more drastically than Howe, who I'd say was restrained. Not that I'd blame either of them.

It was one of the very worst VAR decisions I have seen, could easily knock them out.

As for League 1 a predictable 0-0 and a pretty poor game between Exeter and Shrewsbury. Both sides scored 12 each this season, great to watch. Not. Though I'd take a point with 10 players out injured and losing another yesterday, god knows how many we can put on the bench on Friday in the cup. Notts County must be a banker.

The CL is just constant awful penalty decisions these days. Pre-VAR it was one of the best sporting competitions in the world and now I rarely even bother watching.

Is the problem really VAR or one of the dumbest handball rules imaginable? I feel like it's every other game now that gets decided by a ludicrous handball where the ball ricocheted onto someone's elbow from 0.2m away.

I didn’t mean to imply causation exactly, they could do much better even with VAR. But the current shambles is a consequence of VAR eliminating the grey areas of refereeing that were necessary for the game to make sense. Handball rules weren’t designed to be dissected in slow motion. The ref would just look at the one last night and go ‘mmm nah’ and not worry too much about whether it technically ticked the boxes.

Yeah every time I make my periodic rant about how sport isn't designed to hold up to rules lawyering levels of scrutiny I have football and particularly handball in mind. Yes it's made things more "consistent" and "black and white" and "predictable" but it's made everything that actually matters about the sport significantly worse.

I still think it would have been a complete travesty had that WC ended up swinging on that "handball" for instance.
