Phillips bowled the full toss intentionally to test shanto’s hitting power. Shanto wanted to show him the muscles but KW turned out to be real hero.

Deshi commentators with their usual **** about attacking batting as if cricket hasn't changed since 1998

Jesus, shut the **** up Athar. He smashed the ball around and it worked for him and then he got out trying to smash a full toss which should have ended up in the stands. Fmd.

Yeah just trying to make sense why he was preferred to Rachin, who actually played in that role against Ind last time you guys were in the SC.
Phillips wasn’t in the running for this role 2 years ago because he wasn’t seen as a bowler at all then.

Rachin 2 years ago was a top order bat being shoehorned into an all-rounder role. It’s possible (although I wouldn’t count on it) that the selectors have seen the light and now see him as purely a top order bat and no better a bowler than Phillips (arguable) and no better a batsman than Phillips when asked to play the #7 role (also arguable).

I wouldn’t have been mad at Ravindra playing ahead of Phillips, but I think most NZ fans would be more inclined to say that a spot should be found for him in the top 4 (so basically for Nicholls or maybe Latham at a push).

They will justify the non selection of Ravindra by saying Phillips spins the ball the other way. But - What about Nicholls? Why are we going back to the future with these types of matches? That's why our bowling attack is aging fast with no replacements, short sighted selections.
Devils advocate: Nicholls got a double ton in his last test (granted against Sri Lanka at home and he hasn't done that well on the sub continent outside of the 2018 series win against Pakistan) and has two Plunket Shield tons so hard to dump as the in-form incumbent.

O'Rourke is coming along nicely based on that A-tour.

Ew I'd almost forgotten Southee was ridiculously appointed our Test skipper which of course means we have to live with him being our opening bowler regardless of conditions, and selfishly wasting reviews along the way.

If you don't want Kane selections, make Latham, Conway or Mitchell test skipper already.

Just hoping we've well & truly moved on from Southee come the 4 test series in Australia in a couple of years.

lol Sodhi was taking stutter steps as if he was trying to position himself under that catch, then ended up 5 metres short of it
