Phillips, I think, will go on to be a very good int'l batsman. I had high hopes for Chapman, but I now don't think he's up to it at the top level. Latham should also should play no further ODI cricket.

I won't hold my breath, though. We have chumps in charge, who don't make changes by choice. They lucked into playing Ravindra, after all.

Chapman was a misfit at 7 , he never got the time to settle ,
Against pak he played a decent cameo
Then was run out In the other game and injured for 2-3 games too
Never got a decent chance, I have high hopes for him if he gets to bat at no5 , Latham not only batted awfully, he hampered the team eating up the spot for another batsman to settle and hit at the end

Losing the toss was obviously tough but there is where we didn't do anything with an element of surprise.
It was never going to happen, but KJ in for Southee would have been worth the gamble imo. Basically we knew Timmy was going to be tapped all over

Another move that would have been worthwhile was moving Chapman up the order in front of Latham. Basically he is a gun player and he proved that
some six months ago when he was our best 20/20 player for a while. But he always seems to come in under the most hopeless circumstances.
He can really hit the ball around but he needs a couple overs to get his eye in but he just can't seem to buy a decent opportunity.
At 220/2 it was game on big time, and from the angle at the ground I was in I thought Kane may of hit a six but sadly it wasn't to be.
The crowd had just started to go very quiet and I can assure you they were extremely concerned.
With 8 overs to go there was again a glimmer of hope but then Kuldeep's over that conceded only 2 runs kind of put the game beyond doubt.

Excellent analysis, and yeah nz were in the game till 42nd over of kuldeep , they were only 6 runs behind
No dew fcked nz as the ball was spinning square

He could. But he won’t. He’s a liability except when he bowls exceptionally - and he has to bowl exceptionally every time to make up for all his other deficits.

Come on man... They played a great game, they almost made a chase of 400 possible. They more than proved their worth yesterday. It may end up being the most we were pushed all tournament.


Or you know, Bumrah, Jaddu continue having off days on sunday and Siraj, Shami and Kuldeep join them. :(

I was ok with trying to adapt Chapman to that finisher role at 7. It's a tough role and he'd prefer to bat at say, 5, but there was no room, it fitted the rest of our playing XI and he'd shown some early-innings hitting ability. We've lacked finishers for a long time and I was keen to try him ahead of Neesham.

However, I would've switched back to #BigMatchPlayer Neesham after his knock vs Australia - that was better than anything Chapman provided.

Part of the reason there wasn't room for Chapman to bat in the top 6 is that The Specialist is there at 5. Will admit I got that wrong - I thought his Specialist batting v spin would be valuable this tournament, but he was Specialist terrible instead. We should've been trialling 7-batsmen, including wicketkeepers like Blundell & Fletcher, in the last couple of years, instead of weird things like batting Rachin at 7.

Ultimately it hasn't been mentioned much, but we did miss M Bracewellface this tournament - both his bowling and batting.

Easily far worse conditions for spinners and even seamers after the first 15 when bowling second. In a weird way the used pitch sorta neutralized the advantage of bowling first by quite a bit.

Some of my friends asked me yesterday: why Neesham who nearly chased 388 against Aus didn’t play ?
I told them he is a horrible bowler
Their reply: Chapman guy doesn’t even bowl 🤪

Didn't watch it at all but I'll comment anyway. Depends how he got his wickets. Bowlers can often end up with big hauls at the end of ODI games just by virtue of being bowling when the opposition had to slog and get out to keep up with the run rate.

It might look weird looking at the scorecard because a 7-for is a lot more rare than a hundred, but a batsman making a century to set up a win could be perceived as more influential to the result of the game
