Seems eminently reasonable tbh (apart from the omission of Barrington obvs)Simpson, Barlow, Kanhai, Dexter, Cowdrey, Sobers, Benaud*, Waite+, Hall, Gibbs, Adcock.

This is the point - Barrington wasn’t considered elite in his time or by his peers. Some stat nerds saw his average and decided that he was some unsung hero.Seems eminently reasonable tbh (apart from the omission of Barrington obvs)
Agreed. It was a great injustice, a reflection of home-performance bias most prominently. This is the point - Barrington wasn’t considered elite in his time or by his peers. Some stat nerds saw his average and decided that he was some unsung hero.
Also the fact that he had a very short career and played in some very high scoring series.Agreed. It was a great injustice, a reflection of home-performance bias most prominently.
You don't seem to be agreeing with us.Also the fact that he had a very short career and played in some very high scoring series.
It was a fair reflection - he cashed in on high scrowing draws mainly and wasn’t seen to have the talent or versatilityAgreed. It was a great injustice, a reflection of home-performance bias most prominently.

Yeah I think everyone's kind of on board with this. Barrington has a much higher average to fall from though.Barrington and Yousuf both weren't as good as their averages.
10 year career too thoYeah I think everyone's kind of on board with this. Barrington has a much higher average to fall from though.
Don't think anyone (in these conditions) had it as rough as Atherton. The pace attacks he had to face his entire career was ridiculousI am a fan of 90s openers. Batting top 3 in a bowling era is brutal. Particularly if you have a harsh opposition schedule.
On here, I would think very few agree with my opinion that Kirsten is a similar level to Graeme Smith. Ditto Pujara being a similar level to Sehwag.
Alec Stewart was better than Cook against pace, but Cook's heroics in Asia drag him ahead overall.
Atherton obviously wasn't great, but he was certainly better than Andrew Strauss and deserved a better average than 38. The distribution of attacks he faced over the course of his career was genuinely hellish and his debilitating back condition exaceprated his decline.
Have always been a great lover of Anwar but he definitely gets his plaudits on here and he did have a very short career as already pointed out.
Love Michael's Slater batting highlights reels.

Well yes, was supposed to be an illustrative example. Barrington being about 10% better than Yousuf is about right too. The Barrington boner is just strange.Yeah I think everyone's kind of on board with this. Barrington has a much higher average to fall from though.

I’d call Root and Boycott ATGs at this point too.So Englands only ATG batsman since Hutton is a fraud
How can a guy who performed so well at the highest level, just so happen to be not that good, and just a really lucky home track bully / Voges clone, if I'm getting the argument against him right?lazy is the answer
